Theories on the Dwarf?
In the Mines, there's a wall on the eastern side of the mine entrance and behind it, is a lonely dwarf.

Unless you find all dwarvish scrolls, you can't understand his language.
He never moves from his secluded spot in the cave, which made me come up with a theory.

Maybe, he's undead. Hear me out on this.

His hands are white (Granted, there's the chance they may just be white gloves, but for one who spends all their time underground, it's odd for them to be so pristine, unstained.), his eyes are similar to that of the skeletons, we know magic and undead creatures exist in the game's universe (because again, skeletons and ghosts) and there's something simply... off-putting, not quite right about his appearence, specifically, the face. Or, lack of one, due to him always keeping it hidden beneath his hood.

My thought is maybe, that wall you break to reach him wasn't just a secret wall, but a rockslide that trapped him in there, which is why he's remained in that spot.

He has hostility towards Krobus for his people's thousand-year war against the dwarves.
While the animosity may be purely retroactive due to past events, perhaps he still thinks their kind are warring, because he never could communicate with his kind once the cave in happened.

Alternativally, and much less grim, maybe he simply has a small hole, a tunnel leading elsewhere the player can't see and is still alive. Personally, i think the first theory is more likely, given that he dosen't seem to have a pick to have made such a hole(nor break the proposed cave in), along with his appearance.
------
Any one else have any theories about his origin?

One of the books in the library says that the dwarves may have been aliens whos ship crashed deep underground, and they adapted to life underground, slowly losing their knowledge of technology.

I've read that book. (Mostly to make the 'new book' icon stop being there, but still. :p )

Personally, i'd like to see more of the dwarves in a future update, though i made this post asking theories of the dwarf, himself, rather then his kind.

Regardless, it's an interesting point that they may be alien in origin as a whole.

Given the state of Krobus, I could see this as plausible. I do prefer to believe he is alive and has emotion etc. based on his cutscenes.

Ah, you weren't asking about dwarves in general. I think him hiding his face has something to do with him being sensitive to light because dwarves live underground. You never know, though he could be undead.
