1) Walking, talking, crafting, buying and selling stuff and all that costs NO ENERGY at all. You can't pass out from doing this.
2) Farming (tilling land and watering crops) costs only a LITTLE energy. Planting crops and plucking them doesn't cost anything at all.
3) Cleaning up the land (chopping trees, mining stones) costs a LOT of energy. Don't do it too much. Just a little bit so you have room for a tiny (5 by 6) farm, which is enough.
So I'm not sure how you manage to pass out so often. If your bar gets low, stop working and just go explore and talk to people, find (forage) items and do... anything that doesn't cost energy. You can't pass out if you do that (unless you stay up after midnight until 2:00 AM)
Unless, of course, your game is bugged.
Still have not found any recipes, or anything to eat; however. I am assuming 1 month in game is about the average for you to be able to plant agarden, and grow stuff?
[Oh, and thanks for the link MooN, but I'm not going to do that - that's kind of lame and defeats the point.]
You're a little better off by doing this:
* Sell parsnip seeds except one
* Spend all money on one potato seed, one green bean seed (when they are harvestable save for something you'll learn about later), and as many cauliflower seeds as you can get.
* Clear a spot of land just big enough for the cauliflower seeds. Till, plant, water.
* Walk around gathering any foragables (do not forget the spring onions by the sewer entrance in the forest) and digging up any spots that look like they have worms coming from them.
* Anything that says Gunther can tell you what they are, donate to the museum in town. Save tree seeds back for field snacks. Otherwise, sell. Don't buy food at the bar...it's a waste of money you should be spending on cauliflower seeds or saving for upgrades.
* Use any extra energy to chop down trees. Build one chest to put tools in while you walk around, otherwise save 300 pieces for something at the beach. Once you have enough to unlock that, spend extra energy fishing or in the mines once you have access. Focusing on the mines can eventually get you more energy, you'll see how.
* Until and through the 13th, use any money gotten to buy more cauliflower seeds and plant them.
*Then, get the backpack upgrade.
*Upgrade tools to copper when you have enough ores. Hoe first, when you have less than 14 days left in the season (because that's how long cauliflowers take), or axe. You can also do the watering can when the weather report says it's going to rain the next day. After those, I focus on upgrading pickaxe and axe only...hoe upgrades are great but only really useful the first day of a season, and by the time you can afford more watering can upgrades you'll have sprinklers as an option. Tools take two days to upgrade, plus 5 bars of metal and $2k each for that first level.
I'm on my fifth playthrough. No cheats, using this strategy and then focusing on blueberries in Summer, I had a million at the end of the second season.
I found a reason why he has none....he does not own it. (according to his profile)
So......I need to assume that this guy is just messing with you, folks.
Just...you know....he MIGHT be a troll.
Ot COULD be that I'm wrong on this, but...well...he smells trollish, if you know what I mean.
I do own the game -through GOG. As I stated in the original post, (did you read it?) I tried accessing those forums first, but found the steam forums much easier to use. I apologize if this has somehow offended you.
Thanks everyone else for your help, I am learning so much. Like this TV thing -- I have had people telling me to watch TV, I'm still trying to figure this one out. I don't even know where to get a TV.
Thanks again!
Okay, start a new game if you haven't already, you've already wasted a large amount of time, or don't start a new game, this is only something I recommend.
Now, every morning you wake up in your bed, correct? In your house, ALWAYS go check on the tv in the corner of your room, assmuing you haven't moved your stuff around.
(NOTE: Right click on the tv, carpet, or table to move them around, left click on the TV to check the news.)
Every morning you want to watch EVERY show that is on. "Where do you get a TV?", you ask. You don't, you already have one at the start of every game, it should be in your house, but if you don't know what the TV looks like...well, just look it up.
Now, you have three to four shows to watch every day on the TV, here is what they are:
Weather report: This little show tells you if it is going to rain or not the NEXT day. If it isn't going to rain, don't be concerned about it at all. If it is, then keep this in mind:
Once you plant something, you need to water in EVERY day with your watering can (which should be in your invertory at the start of the every game), or else all your plants die. If it is going to rain the next day, that means you don't have to water your plants the next day, this is important because it saves you lots of energy.
Fortune Teller: This show, in my opinon, isn't really the most important show, and I actually just skip it most days, you can do the same but if you want to know what it's for, then here:
The Fortune Teller tells you what your Luck will be like today. "What is Luck?", you ask. Luck is a sorta important feature that affects the following:
-Amount of wood dropped from trees
-Chance of getting coal from rocks
-Chance to discover ladders while Mining.
-Quality of ore from Panning.
-Geode drop chance.
(Luck does not increase the chance to receive rare gems and artifacts from geodes.)
-Drop chance of Duck Feather and Rabbit's Foot.
-Chance of getting items from trash bins and the chance the item is not trash.
-Chance your spouse will be jealous after giving a gift to another marriage candidate.
-Chance of treasure appearing while Fishing.
-Chance of getting Neptune's Glaive from fishing treasure.
-Results of playing slots at the Casino.
-Amount of lightning during a storm.
The Fortune Teller channel on the television will give an indication of your daily luck by saying:
-"The spirits are very happy today! They will do their best to shower everyone with good fortune." This means that you got the best possible luck today.
-"The spirits are in good humor today. I think you'll have a little extra luck." This means that you got a very small amount of luck.
-"The spirits feel neutral today. The day is in your hands." Despite it saying 'neutral', you actually got a VERY small amount of luck.
-"This is rare. The spirits feel absolutely neutral today." This means you got no extra luck today.
-"The spirits are somewhat annoyed/mildly perturbed today. Luck will not be on your side." This means you have a negative amount of luck, meaning that you now have 'bad luck'.
-"The spirits are very displeased today. They will do their best to make your life difficult." This means you have a severe decrease in luck, meaning you got the worst possible outcome and today is going to be hell for you.
Living off the Land: This a Tv show that gives you tips on playing, and is actually very important, watch this whenever possible.
Cooking Channel (The Queen of Sauce): This show is VERY important, it teaches you how to cook things without having to buy the recipe.
Now that we have covered everything about the Tv shows, lets move on to the actual gameplay.
Press 'E' to open up a menu, you have several options:
-Map. It shows where you are in the whole town, and where everything else is. (NOTE: Mouse over specfic buildings to see what time they open and close, and who lives there.)
-Invertory. This one is self explainitory, but if you havn't already figured out what the Tv is, then you need this advice.
The invertory has three bars, the first one is your defult invertory, the last two are locked untill you buy the red and blue bag in Priee's Shop. The red bag opens up the second row in your invertory, and it also costs 2,000g. The blue bag opens the last row in your invertory, and it also costs 10,000g. Don't worry about getting either of these right now.
The invertory also has a little trash can in next to your invertory, use it to toss out stuff you don't want, to make room for other things.
-Crafting. Crafting allows you to make lots of fun things, including a chest, to store everything you find along your journey. The CHEST is something you should make RIGHT AWAY, and don't worry, you don't need to get a recipe to make it, you already know how to make it on day one.
(There are more options in the menu like, settings, and all that, but they aren't important. At least for now.)
Now, lets talk about your biggest problem here, your energy.
Energy is the bar in the bottom right corner of your screen, and whatever you do, NEVER let it empty.
You can refill some of your energy by eating something, but you SHOULDN'T have to do this in your first week if you are farming, fishing is a whole other story, but we'll talk about that later.
ADVICE: Grab those Parsnips at the beginning of the game, there should be 15. Go outside and ONLY dig a patch big enough for 15, you don't need to clear more stuff out of the way just yet. Once you have planted the seeds (click on the seeds, then click on the dirt you already sowed), water them using the watering can.
ALSO: Once you have done that, you should have a good chunk of energy left. Use that energy to cut trees and ONLY trees, wood is a VERY important thing in the game, you'll need tons. Use that wood to build a chest, then place that chest whereever you want to, then place whatever you don't need in it.
DO NOT: Use up all of your energy. To check to see how much energy you have left, mouse over that bar and read what it says, NEVER reach below 5 energy.
WHAT TO DO NEXT: Oh, you thought that was it? You thought you could sleep and regain energy now, NOPE, not yet at least.
Go to the path at the right of your house, keep walking till you exit the screen and go into the next area. You should be at the bus stop. There are sometimes stuff on the ground there, like yellow flowers or some kind of plants and weeds, you should try to pick up them up (walk up them then left click on it). If you pick something up, don't throw it away, the yellow flowers can be used as gifts to people, other plants could be eaten to regain energy, other times you get clams or shells, you can sell those. There is ALWAYS something you can pick up in ANY area, so look closely for anything that sticks out.
Sorry, but I'm really getting bored writing this out, and anyways, I don't want this to be too long and I can't post it. So, FOR NOW, I'll post this then come back later to explain more, okay?
I hope I helped! I'll explain more when I come back later!
Thank you!
Luckly this is a good community when PyroFish is not here.
Your welcome! And in a few minutes I'll go back to writing the explanition of the game for you!
I'm glad I could help!
