How do I catch really fast fish?

Before you say anything, I spent all of my first fall and winter fishing, but I can't seem to catch those really fast fish, any tips? cause they burn through my bait really quickly...then again algae does the same.

To catch really fast fish and legendaries, you're going to need a trap bobber, and ideally buff foods that increase your fishing skill. Shouldn't be too tough to round up the ingredients if you plan ahead. Unfortunately I've forgotten what those ingredients are precisely, but the wiki should have you covered if your character doesn't already know the recipes.

Iridium Rod + Trap Bobber. DO NOT use the Barbed Hook, you'll have better control with free-style, and Trap Bobber allows extra time before the fish escapes.

Um....how do I get the iridum rod? all I have is the fiber glass one.

Why the hell are you trying to catch difficult fish at level 5?

Get to a higher level, duh.

I'm trying to catch them cause I want to get rid of the glittering rock and I have all the lake fish except sturgeon.........

I highly recommend getting to level 7 so you can unlock the iridium rod, and use the Trap Bobber. This way the green bar will be bigger which makes it a 100 times easier to catch fast fish / legendary fish. Best of luck!
