If I fill with all gold star items (plus the fish), I score 97 and win.
Not that hard actually. I saved a few gold star crops, caught a few gold star fish, and foraged a few gold star items. 2 gamesplays in the row and I won first place in the first year.
Same here. 1st year is easy. I've always put my highest value item for each category (mineral, forage, fruit, vegetable, artisan good, fish, a no-category one, + 2 extra of any of the categories that are high value). As long as you have variety of categories, you should be fine.
Then bargain some money in the wheel, until you can buy all the items in the shop!

Shows the point system, it was made before iridium quality so just assume it's the same as gold quality

I've been putting an iridium bar and a purple slime egg on there all these years..oh well~ let's see if I could score higher than 109 next year then..
A Starfruit is good if you can get one (you can get at least one from Gunther). Mellons and Pumpkins are good, Mellon Jelly is good. A Fairy Rose is good. A Diamond is good.
You can look at the list and adjust based on what you have available:
