Pickaxe... sounds crazy, but that is how to lift things you have placed.

I discovered this entirely by accident about three minutes after posting this. lol. I am wondering about something else now. Can i relocate Wells and other buildings? Already tried whacking them with tools to no avail :(

No, buildings are semi-permanent, meaning you can only have Robin destroy and rebuild them. I remember reading that the game creator would like to add the option to move buildings in a later update, but there's no telling when that will happen.
