Is fishing worth it?
I am in late autumn in my first year. I have gotten to the lowest level of the mines and have a decent crop of pumpkins ready to harvest soon. I am running out of things to do, i have literally done fishing once at the very start of the game. My fishing level is 1. I don't really like doing it, but people seem to do it alot so i am asking whether there are good benifits from fishing,

You can use it to kill time. You also require fish for the community center bundles and for certain recipes.

I fish when I need to wait for a shop to open, a npc to return, ect. Use bait (from bugmeat) to make it faster and think about buying equipment from the fisherman. A long gold star fish can make some good cash.

On occasion you can find treasure that is worth more than fish. The Rusty Trident has a decent chance of being fished up on the beach, and you can sell it at the Adventurer's Lodge for 1100g. Odds are very low, but you can even pull up a Prismatic Shard if you're very lucky.

It's an alternate, unreliable method of acquiring a random assortment of items ranging from trash to rarities. You can still make a decent amount of cash just off the fish too, so it's a fairly profitable skill to work on.

Sir, there is nothing like the feeling of throwing a sharp piece of metal into the water and waiting for it to rip into the mouth if a water dwelling creature, allowing you to then yank it from its home by the roof if it's ripped mouth and suffocating it in the hot dry air. 10/10 would fish to pass the time when there's nothing else to do.

For my purposes I usually level that skill to ten first. As in the beggining of the game it's a good way to earn cash. I usually take the trapper route, then do luremaster, so my crab pots can then become a passive income each day without needing to be baited. Whilst recycling trash I pick up too. Although, the income from trapping isn't super significant. But, when you have 100+ pots out it's a free almost 10k a day for just running around collecting.

Was thinking the same thing when I saw the free bait talent in wiki. Alas, my current lass already took the other route. Will play with it when I make my JoJo achievement character... before I kill them for being a ♥♥♥♥ to Stardew Valley.

fishing in my opinion is one of the more enjoyable aspects of the game... it is also a good way to make money in the begining...

I just achieved level 10 fishing with my bamboo pole, summer year 1. It's the best way to start a new game. Fish, fish, fish, every single day you can (lucky days mainly), and fish from 8am to 10pm. You will get all kinds of treasure chests with ton of minerals, gifts, weapons, ore, etc. I filled up half of museum with only fishing, haven't been to the mines yet.
Also, there are many dishes you can cook that will boost your fishing skill considerably. Allowing an easier time to catch legendary, and other valuable fish. Making it a somewhat viable skill for making money, even in later game portions.

I am in my second year and currently I haven't fished since i started the game. its really difficult to get the hang of using the keyboard but if you use a remote control its a little easier.

On my first play-through, I found fishing difficult and frustrating and not worth the time. But after my fingers learned the timing of the mouse-clicks to keep control of the ups and downs, it got easier. Not a bad way to make a bit of cash any time of day without having to go all the way to the mines. But I probably would not have stuck with it if it weren't for the bundles and quests.
