you bought the slime hutch for a reason -.-
The fence isn't a magical barrier that forever prevents you from entering. There's clearly a gate shown in the image. If you want to go in there and kill slimes and/or pickup loot, then go do it.
Slimes can't get through, and most eggs spawn around the empty space in the hutch, making it easy to get to them without risk.
Also, I know this topic is very old, but as of the 1.5 update, you can now use sprinklers to water the slime troughs. No watering can necessary!
