How to Water WITHOUT Harvesting on PC
I figured this out and thought I'd leave it here in case it helps anyone.

-Get in spot you desire to water from,
-analogue/turn your farmer to face the desired Direction of watering from there,
-move mouse Well Beyond the crop right in front of you. Doesn't matter if you mouse over a chest on the other side of the screen and your mouse icon turns into a hand; as long as your mouse is in that direction and not On the crop in front of you, you can left click and hold without harvesting or interacting with anything outside of range. (mouse icon should be grayed out)

I find this helpful if you want to water everything Before a big harvest so that your Stamina is nearly drained while watering, then you can eat a Farmer's Lunch buff food without wasting it's big energy and grab/replant everything. Edit: or as a nice person in comments reminded me, allow a Giant veggie to grow.

Dunno if taking Farming to lvl 13 with that food temporarily increases the quality of Foodstuff harvested at the time, but having used Quality Fertilizer a few times before already, I seemed to get a noticeably higher ratio of gold star quality Wheat to other qualities this harvest to previous harvests.

Interestingly, crops in this game don't die if they're not watered for the day; they just won't advance to the next stage of their growth, which doesn't matter if they're matured and ready to harvest. You can just leave them be and they'll still be ready to harvest the next day while you water the rest.

I would only find your tips helpful if you have a bunch of matured crops along with several crops still growing and you can't easily water them all without accidentally harvesting your mature ones. :corncob:

i would love to water and not pick crops sometimes. espeically giant crops to get an extra day or 2 for a giant crop to grow!

why are you watering fully grown crops? you dont need to water them once they are grown and ready to harvest.

but you do need to water crops if they are able to grow into giant crops! you dont get the giant crop chance unless you water them again. sometimes i let them sit for 2 or 3 days for the chance at an extra giant or 2

This gives me another idea!. thanks mate.
Back to the original point, you could also just upgrade your watering can to at least copper and not stand next to the ripe plant when you water....

In one area I have a set of 3x3 crop plots arranged vertically in two columns, I find it a pretty smooth operation to move down the single space aisle between and only need to lightly tap an A or D key once reaching the axis between two plots then a light flick of the right wrist and my cursor is far enough away to allow for a point-blank Gold level Water Can spread. Once you get a groove on this can be done pretty quickly, and the ground is already watered for a re-plant so that you keep the original fertilizer and don't have to make multiple trips through the area if you're already carrying new seeds.

It's great for OCD (if it's the last harvest of the season but you still feel like you need to water before picking) and efficiency in general, ^and for folks who want to summon the GIANT PUMpKIN.

I think it's a nice balance between growing a decent amount of crops in the pre 'sprinkler/tractor' game and not spending all day just watering them because ye've planted too many.

I could for instance make columns 5 wide once unlocking the Iron can to grow *more crops... but at what cost @.@ that's stopping 3 times as often.

Your first paragraph was helpful in that it had not occurred to me to use this tactic of leaving the crop there for a day > for the purpose of retaining the original Fertilizer placed there.

Sometimes I forget to buy the next batch of seeds ahead of time and harvest day comes on a Wednesday, so planting something else there just to retain fertilizer (after being in a hurry to harvest and realizing my mistake) and keep *something growing (thus throwing off a planned groove) was always a little kick in the pants but I also tend to play this game when I am just trying to stay awake/sleep deprived so I am asking for it haha.

As for the second paragraph? If there is a situation that someone finds this helpful for, however unlikely it is of actually being the case most of the time, then I am glad.

IF i STOP WATERING, THE VOICES GET LOUDER x]

-crops that continue to produce after first harvest like Blueberries and Peppers also come to mind, or just wanting to do all the watering at once and Replant afterward if it's still mid season.

If it's end season? EH a combination of a) pretending that a watered plant will be happier and the fruit will somehow be .. better or More hydrated(?) right up to the last second that I pull it off the vine and much tastier thereby... aaaand b) no small amount of the dark gods demanding it (this is just a joke metaphor for 'OCD').

But hey even watering something you don't need to for the dark gods of chaos might help you level your Farming skill faster if Watering stuff contributes to experience gain, who knows.
-'Hoe' and 'Watering Can' efficiency increases are mentioned under 'Farming skill food buff' on the wiki but that could just be to reduce the stamina cost of said actions.

Sounds like speedrunning sprinklers might be in order :P
I don't wanna Dx

(I'm actually workin' on it and got a ton more gold just yesterday evenin', but the sprinklers are definitely going in the greenhouse first since I can't be bothered to walk in there everyday, at least until I've got the fruit trees set up all over the wood borders)

You only need to water and have hte crop grown for the inner corp which is selected to become big though. it means that no matter what the full outside of your corp field can be unwatered seeds if you are only aiming for large crops and want to minimise work.
