Poured water on myself
I am now wet :(
I would only find your tips helpful if you have a bunch of matured crops along with several crops still growing and you can't easily water them all without accidentally harvesting your mature ones.
In one area I have a set of 3x3 crop plots arranged vertically in two columns, I find it a pretty smooth operation to move down the single space aisle between and only need to lightly tap an A or D key once reaching the axis between two plots then a light flick of the right wrist and my cursor is far enough away to allow for a point-blank Gold level Water Can spread. Once you get a groove on this can be done pretty quickly, and the ground is already watered for a re-plant so that you keep the original fertilizer and don't have to make multiple trips through the area if you're already carrying new seeds.
It's great for OCD (if it's the last harvest of the season but you still feel like you need to water before picking) and efficiency in general, ^and for folks who want to summon the GIANT PUMpKIN.
I think it's a nice balance between growing a decent amount of crops in the pre 'sprinkler/tractor' game and not spending all day just watering them because ye've planted too many.
I could for instance make columns 5 wide once unlocking the Iron can to grow *more crops... but at what cost @.@ that's stopping 3 times as often.
Your first paragraph was helpful in that it had not occurred to me to use this tactic of leaving the crop there for a day > for the purpose of retaining the original Fertilizer placed there.
Sometimes I forget to buy the next batch of seeds ahead of time and harvest day comes on a Wednesday, so planting something else there just to retain fertilizer (after being in a hurry to harvest and realizing my mistake) and keep *something growing (thus throwing off a planned groove) was always a little kick in the pants but I also tend to play this game when I am just trying to stay awake/sleep deprived so I am asking for it haha.
As for the second paragraph? If there is a situation that someone finds this helpful for, however unlikely it is of actually being the case most of the time, then I am glad.
IF i STOP WATERING, THE VOICES GET LOUDER x]
-crops that continue to produce after first harvest like Blueberries and Peppers also come to mind, or just wanting to do all the watering at once and Replant afterward if it's still mid season.
If it's end season? EH a combination of a) pretending that a watered plant will be happier and the fruit will somehow be .. better or More hydrated(?) right up to the last second that I pull it off the vine and much tastier thereby... aaaand b) no small amount of the dark gods demanding it (this is just a joke metaphor for 'OCD').
But hey even watering something you don't need to for the dark gods of chaos might help you level your Farming skill faster if Watering stuff contributes to experience gain, who knows.
-'Hoe' and 'Watering Can' efficiency increases are mentioned under 'Farming skill food buff' on the wiki but that could just be to reduce the stamina cost of said actions.
(I'm actually workin' on it and got a ton more gold just yesterday evenin', but the sprinklers are definitely going in the greenhouse first since I can't be bothered to walk in there everyday, at least until I've got the fruit trees set up all over the wood borders)
