Fish pond
I have my first fish pond, and have a few questions that I couldn't find answers to.

I put a sturgeon in it and it only lets me put one in. I want to get the roe for caviar. So do I not need to put a second sturgeon in?

After I get the roe and am through with the sturgeons, can I remove them and put a new type of fish in? The idea of having many fish ponds isn't appealing to me and would like to only have one, or at most, two. Thanks

they grow out over time so you just need one to start. they will ask for items to grow. maximum of 10 fish a pond of the same type.

if you are done with the pond you can fish it empty with your fishing rod. but you wont get the fishing mini game.

once it Is empty you can add a new fish.

Over a period of time the pond will have a notification showing items it wants. Giving those items will grant the pond more slots for that fish (seems to differ how quickly it maxes out for different fishes) - and the more fish you have, the more roe will be produced, eventually at a basically almost daily rate with a chance of more than one at a time.

Assuming you only want one piece of roe for caviar, you could probably get it pretty easily without maxing out the pond.

Be careful not to use the 'empty pond' popup option when you rightclick the pond unless you want to lose any fish still in the pond - use your fishing rod to fish them out if you want to first. Also, you can reel your rod back immediately after throwing the bobber in, no minigame, no need to even wait for the !

Note that any fish you put into the pond regardless of quality will always lose it and become a qualityless fish after you fish it out though

You can only put a new species of fish into the pond after using that option; and the new fish will have to go through the upgrading process again

to clarify it wil not produce "more" it will only have better and more "chances per day" to produce something depending on the number of fishes in it.

I put my fish in and a few days later it wanted a diamond, which I gave him. Now a few days later I have three fish. Do I leave all three in? My goal is to get the roe to make caviar.

if you let all inside they will demmand another thing when the current max capacity is again reached, so you can enhance the max fish population in the pond again. look at the Stardew Valley Wiki how more fish numbers change and enhence you chances for production.

the short answer is that the more fish you have the more likely roe will be produced. And yes, you will eventually get caviar from the sturgeon pond.

The fish are very demandy :)

Edit: you will get roe, which you need to put into a preserve jar to get caviar.

I have not tried it myself, but when you make a fish pond you create a new side quest. Each time you complete it. The capacity of the pond grow bigger. Some fish that are very rare or hard to catch will start with only 1 capacity, unlike most others that start with 3 capacity. It is to balance the rarity somewhat.

what is more "balancing" are the items some fish kinds demmand for upgrades

Greedy jerks. They should be thankful I didn't throw them in the bin in the first place.

I'll never forget my first fish pond where I went straight for lava eels (as per online information) for profits and they demanded I throw nukes into the sizzling pond an uncomfortable distance from my farm and house

When they demanded nukes from me was when I had it by the chicken coop full little fluffy bunny rabbits!

Was worth the sacrifice.....

Wait I just realized I didn't need to sacrifice those cute hopping bundles of joy.............

Still worth it..

how long do you have to wait after it reaches max capacity again? I got the first ! for my lava eels and gave them their 3 red quartzs which they accepted. now they've been back up to the max (3) for well over a week and still no ! i tried to dump their diamonds in there but w/o the ! it won't take them it just says they're content. today i fished em all out and dumped them right back (w/o emptying) in hoping it would help but it doesn't seem to have done so.
