Very relaxing solo. Game pauses when in inventory and at certain points.
There aren't servers, you invite people to play.
Don't think it's cross platform.

Game didn't had any multiplayer at first and it wasn't planned for it to accomedate it.

This isn't a multiplayer game, co-op is optional. So why would it be a problem if you played solo?

Nope, definitely not. And as already pointed out, this game was built as a solo game to begin with. Multiplayer was added later as an option. :brownchicken:

Well your opinion for some Coop elements always add some special flavour , playing together, doing together experiences and memories, and loosing and suffering together :D

There is a reason why Coop was added later. Even if it wasn't planned at the beginning.

The question here though was how the game is for solo play and since it basically is a solo game to begin with, that kinda answers that question meaning it's fully playable, enjoyable and not really more difficult in singleplayer than it is in multiplayer. There are so many other better examples of games where co-op is basically essential for the gaming experience as a whole. But that isn't to say that multiplayer is useless in Stardew Valley. There was a big demand for multiplayer, which is why it was added and it is used by many many players :>

As someone that plays this game entirely by myself, it's surprisingly fun and addicting for what it is, even after 100 hours in. From what I can tell (I haven't played multiplayer in this game once), you're not really missing anything if you decide to play by yourself; the only thing you don't get access to in single player is the wedding ring that allows you to marry another player in-game, but marriage with an NPC works a little differently as you'll find out for yourself.

And no, multiplayer is not required to 100% the game - if you're playing in a solo game, crafting the wedding ring doesn't count towards 100% completion as that's only for multiplayer.

My question was how does having co-op make the solo experience worse, not how playing in multiplayer makes the game better. And the question is rethorical because the answer is obviously that it does not :steamfacepalm: Adding co-op to a single player game does not affect single player experience at all.

first of all as a the host farmer you can decide who joins your farm, and can even kick them out if you decide you dont want them there .
You can still play your farm solo at any time, but the other players can NOT join your farm if you are not there -- so you remain in control.
You can have the other player simply as a hired hand, to do your farm work (not as much fun for them) or you can work together, mine together (easier to do Skull cave together).
You can each marry NPC's and have a family and both expand your houses. Or you can marry each other and raise a family together.
Just remember if you play together, it will seem odd to go into your farm if the other person is not there, so that may limit your time in game.
However, you can always have 2 farms, one for solo play, and one for co-op play, and see for yourself which one you like best.
I played co-op with a friend while she was learning the game, to help her out. Once she learned the ins and outs of the game, she started her own farm.

I mean multiplayer is very popular for this game and has surely increased the interest for it for many. But the only true benefit would be that you have someone else to chat with and help you gather stuff, basically. Which I guess can be quite important for some players but it is not something that is required in order to progress through the game. Players wanted it cause it is a nice thing to have, basically.

In some games however, multiplayer is more essential in order to progress through the game. Take the survival game "Don't Starve Together" for example, which is also possible to play and enjoy solo, but there are certain boss fights in that game that are designed for and will require some teamwork with others unless you cheat. It is also much easier to explore and survive by having at least one partner in game so in this case multiplayer is actually quite essential when it comes to certain aspects of that game :>

The game is actually really nice when playing solo. Taking care of your own farm, raising animals, exploring new areas, all is good in solo:brownchicken:

I'd highly recommend playing solo first. You'll gain first hand knowledge on quality of life improvements and time sensitive missions, items, etc. that you can learn about at your own pace.

While there's nothing wrong with jumping into multiplayer first, playing with friends that already know the game inside and out may make you feel a bit overwhelmed.
Not trying to discourage you from multiplayer first but a little firsthand knowledge does go a long way.

As for finding friends to join in with, there's plenty of Stardew Valley communities that can help find you friends to get a game together. Last I checked, there's no 'Server List' that shows all games. Someone feel free to correct me If I'm wrong.

On the subject of Multiplayer (or co-op), the one thing to consider is that, if you have one friend joining you, then it's not difficult to coordinate another session. When you get 2 or 3 joining you, suddenly time zones, work schedules, etc. make it difficult for everyone to join and often left out of sessions. Just a thought.
