Opinion time: Shane
Hey everyone! I wanted to ask about what you guys think of Shane, since he's marriagable in the official update now. I'm mostly interested because...I don't like him much at all. I think he's kind of a jerk (same with Alex, really.) However, I do like Haley after befriending her.

Can anyone tell me why they like Shane, or why they dislike him? I want to see if I'm missing something.

Befriend both Shane and Alex, and you'll have a reason to like them.

Shane is a depresso, and Alex has insecurities and a past of sadness.

♥♥♥♥ i just spoiled it

Shane and Alex are the only good ones imo.
Huh, maybe I'll befriend them then. I knew someone in school who seemed confident to a fault who turned out insecure, and I liked them a lot because of that complexity. Plus, (tmi) I've struggled with depression and had loved ones and friends who dealt with it, so I can emphasize with that. ConcernedApe made a really nice cast of characters, imo.

I already befriended George and Evelyn because I like grumpy grandpa types, so can't be too hard to swing by Alex and say hi...

Alex apologies for it, and wants to make better off himself, too.

He's worthwhile I'd say.

Hes a rude, depressed alcoholic. I suspect he appeals to the type who want to help such people, or who see shades of themself in him. Others likely dislike him because they just find him whiney and rude, or because they see shades of themselves and dont like it. Personally I just get the feeling hes kinda beaten down due to soul crushing joja work, like the player was, but didnt have a free untaxed house, water rights, and land to fall back on.

I married Shane, and I confess I find him a little challenging. He has better days and not great days. But he's working on it. He seems a little better since the baby's born.

I forgot that shane was so grumpy at first (got him to 8 hearts where he was much more likeable in the game before the updates.) It will take some work but my body is ready!

I never understood the Shane-train. Altough I am glad he's marriagable, he's the kind of person who I tend to stay away from in real life.

If it was real life and I was told to introduce myself to everyone in a new town that I just moved into and Shane introduced himself to me the way he does, I probably would have goaded him into fighting me, never dealing with him again after the first encounter.

I think people like/dislike Shane because he's kind of a reflection of how a majority of people were at least once in their life. People hate in others what they hate in themselves and people love what they can understand. He's a cool guy if you try to get to know him.

I'll tell you why I am happy Shane is marriable. Alex, Sama and Sebastian seem like they're too young. I guess old enough to drink but still they just seem like kids. Alex seems the least kid like out of those but still seems like he's young. Harvey is creepy with his p0rn moustache. Elliiot...meh the hair no thanks. Shane seems like he's younger than those two but older than Alex, Sam and Sebs, probably mid twenties. Doesn't feel so creepy one way or another.

Shane was nice before the update, but now once you go through his cutscenes, he turns out to be really nice. So yeah, him.

Shane is at working age, he's that character who doesn't see any perspectives in his life, hes dead inside, he doesn't care for other people, and therefore other people usually dont care much about him. The moment you stop letting people get close to you is the moment you stop gaining new friends. And shane was such a case. He uses work and drinking as excuses to avoid everything else hes missing in life.

Maybe the dev added him because the dev is in similar age and can relate to his adult worry more than kids/teenagers can relate to sam or alex or sebastian, and wants to address this aspect in life.
Not everything is sunshine and rainbow, otherwise stardew valley would be a too perfect world.

Just like how other marriage candidates are aimed at different groups, shane is made for certain groups of people who can relate to him, or want to be someone who helps someone in shane's shoes on his way to a better self.

He's a sweetheart that's become bitter due to having a terrible job, unable to afford his own place, and has turned to alcohol to comfort himself and escape reality. He's super cute with his chickens.

You're right though, the others do seem too young and Harvey is just ..eh. I never opposed Shane becoming a thing though, and I can't wait to see his CS. I do like Elliot though!

I like Elliott and think Harvey is sweet, but I do prefer the girls generally anyway. The guys you mentioned definitely seem like teenagers to me, and I'm saying that as someone on the younger end (but not a teen.) Maybe college students at best, since I could see Alex as a college football player (!)

I can see what you mean. Though I didn't like Shane too much, I do find him more relatable than most of the male candidates, and a good 75% of the female ones (I can relate to Maru and Leah, to some extent.)

I personally liked the shades of darkness you see in Pam and Penny as well, since Pam is obviously a poor alcoholic and her daughter has been running things for her for years. The making children disappear via the witch hut with the new update was a slight shock to me, though...not a bad one though, heheheh
