The "Goblin" Problem

It states in the quest about the Goblin that you need to lure him out so you can get to the witch? (This is the new Wizard quest from the update) How do I lure him away?

Fish in the Witch's Swamp. You'll get an item to get him to move. At least that's how I got it.

I heard Void Mayonnaise also works. I'm assuming it's just "loved" gifts? I was surprised you could befriend the goblin at all, considering you can't befriend other people like Gil, Gunther, Traveling Cart Lady, Hat Mouse, etc.

I know that void mayonnaise will work, but as the quest states "Perhaps I should seek out more information about goblins", how would one do that? How would I know that the Void mayo would work without trial and error?

You can find something talking about goblins in the library in one of the bookcases.
