I also find it funny that ppl really wanted to marry Shane. His character is really depressing. He is literally the representation of an empty shell of a person in automatic mode in life. The only thing I can think of ppl wanting a divorce fuction is because they are curious what the other characters dialogues are when married.
I get that part, but I just dont understand how ppl dont know what they're getting into. It isnt exactly hard to start stereotyping all the characters as you start speaking to them. As in op's case. He/She didnt like that eliott stays indoors all the time, but that was his character at its core. He was a hermit before marriage and he is still going to be a hermit after marriage.
And so divorce is born. If you really don't like the choice that you've made. Divorce and change! I guess it is to give a sense of not being stuck with a bad choice. This way we don't feel locked.
