Edit: Note that you don't need billions to play the game right. Just make sure that you are able to maintain yourself and buy what you need. Otherwise just have fun doing anything you like.
For example, I consider the "right way" to farm, is that you're done planting and watering by 10am at the latest. (This includes replanting seeds, checking cave, animals and greenhouse.)
Friday is the socialising day, as everyone goes to the bar.
Every other day is a free for all. But it definitely helps to focus on one thing. Do fishing all day Monday, then Mining all day Wednesday. Don't do both in one day. You waste too much time walking around. :P
While earning money is often a goal, it's not the only draw. After all, there's no real penalty for being penniless. Some people focus on layout and exploration. You can spend hours making a farm and home layout that's uniquely yours.
Other people like exploring. This particular game has more corners and secrets to explore than most farm sims.
Some people focus on a specific type of craft or good. There's a lot to master and limited time in a day....which is how we circle back to time managment being a huge part of gameplay.
