All seeds from trees are random chance, but they will only drop their own kind of seed. Maple trees will only drop maple seeds. Oak trees will only drop acorns. The location of trees or the season or time all do not matter. The chance will remain the same.
Also, I think you mean Acorns, not hazelnuts. Hazelnuts are a forage item and can spawn anywhere in fall. They're unrelated to trees (in this game).

Unless you're trying to say you actually get hazelnuts from trees, which is not possible.

I still believe that what sunwave says is that it's impossible because halzelnuts are only from foraging. I am pretty sure they don't drop from trees. It would be acorns and not hazelnut.

lol, i can tell the difference between a maple seed and a hazelnut, and an oak tree and a maple tree

Well, if they dropped from maple trees instead of maple seeds, I MIGHT have believed it to be something if you had been serious about it. But since you added the unnecessary "only if they are planted near pine trees" I'm 99,9% sure you're just bullshitting. And that other 0,1% is for when there's still some kind of (very unlikely) bug.

EDIT: Ok... so according to some other sources it might be true if Squirrels run up trees. Still, though, why would you add "only if planted near pine trees" and "near the end of fall"? Since that still doesn 't appear to matter one bit (and that is the part that made it unbelievable).

I've also seen Hazelnuts get shaken out of trees, up on that backway north of the farm. Just twice, so far, but that was a goodly while ago for me.

To be fair, I don't know if it's true but I looked it up on google. Hazelnuts do grow on trees (maybe not maple trees exactly) so it's not entirely impossible. I don't think pine trees affect that.

The wiki however doesn't mention anything about maple trees or trees in general except it growing in the Fall. So I don't know what to think of it. Source: http://stardewvalleywiki.com/Hazelnut

I mean, it would make sense- I think all of the other Fall Forageables (and winter forageables... and come to think of it, the Summer forageables as well) have at least two methods of being obtained. The Salmonberry and Blackberry, Grapes, Spice Berry, and Wild Plum can all show up in the Bat Cave, you can find Common Mushrooms in the Mushroom Cave and around the map, you can buy the spring forage flowers at the holiday events in that season- basically the only one I can think of that doesn't have more than one way of gathering is the Fiddlehead Fern. Oh wait, the Spring Onions and Leeks can join in- I've only ever seen them in the one place. All of the winter forageables show up in the Cold Biome of the Mines.

I found this at the bottom under "Other Wildlife" on the wiki, it may or may not be relevant.

" Squirrels may occasionally cause Hazelnuts or an appropriate tree seed to fall from trees they run up to."

Dang, nice find. I think the mystery has been solved. This is why Hazelnuts are found in trees,
