Stardew Valley
Modding help for SVE, Ridgeside, East Scarp?
Hey all. I'm relatively new to modding. I played something like 1200 hours of SV without mods, got 100% completion, etc. I'm currently staying in a house with an older computer and shoddy internet, so SV was one of my obvious choices for games to play while I'm here. I decided to try a new file with some mods, and made it about halfway through Ginger Island on a file with a good 90-100 mods. (Automate, NPC map, outfit and furniture customization, new areas, etc.)

However, I'm finally starting ANOTHER new file, and wanted to try out Stardew Valley Expanded mod. I've also heard that East Scarp and Ridgeside mods are great too, and they look great. However, I can't get them all to work. I tried moving mods between folders to test them. SVE works by itself. Ridgeside and Scarp work with each other. However, all 3 cause the game to crash.

I'm wondering if it's just lag? I do notice that the game takes about 30 seconds longer to launch with SMAPI whenever I'm running those mods. As I said, I'm using a fairly old computer, but still... SV isn't a super resource intensive game, nor super impressive graphically. It's possible that this computer just can't handle 3 large mods at once, but it's also possible that I just did something wrong. I mean, I installed LOTS of other, smaller mods like Automate just fine, so I know how to do it and check mod requirements. But I don't know how to check SMAPI for error logs or anything that might be the true cause? Is there a way to tell if it's a mod issue, a user error, or just my computer being garbage?

I do see on SMAPI a few outdated mods, such as custom furniture and NPC maps, so my next course of action is to try updating those... but I think they're all optional for the expansion mods, so it's probably not that. I DID see a bright red error thing that said something like "failed parsing quest", I think for Ridgeside, but Google didn't help me find someone with the same problem, and SMAPI closed so fast I couldn't read it closely. But again, Ridgeside and East Scarp work fine together... it's just SVE that doesn't agree with them.

Any help or advice is appreciated!

Can't help you much, but load times with SVE are very long. Like x5 at least with game start and loading of the map.
It could be that you run out of memory. As the previous poster mentioned SVE in particular is big and increases the loading time significantly. All 3 mods should be compatible. You just need to follow the installation instructions.

SVE makes changes to a lot of maps, so it's up to you if you really want it. East Scarp and Ridgeside feel much more compact and tend to add new maps instead of doing major changes to the vanilla maps, making them much more compatible with other mods.
They are compatible but not super stable together, if that makes sense. I am of the same opinion that Ridgeside Village and East Scarp works great together, but adding Expanded into the mix seems to make the game a bit unstable at the moment. This is my experience from many hours of testing and also why I don't use all three at the same time anymore. Ridgeside Village also seems to be a lot more demanding than Expanded, which I guess makes sense when you look at the content. The more mods you add (and especially heavy mods) the longer the game will take to load and that's totally normal. But if you get red errors in the smapi console then that is an indication something is wrong.

If you want to, you can share your smapi log here. Just follow the instructions here: Smapi Log Parser[smapi.io]
Ah. That's a shame. Do people have a preference of which is better, between the 2 groups? I can just try to do SVE or RV/ES, and have 2 separate save files. I'm not a huge fan of the Grandpa's Farm map, so I can use that for SVE and another modded farm for the others. Just gotta decide which to do first!
My personal preference is RV+ES or SVE alone. At least for now until their compability has been improved. Grandpas farm is completely optional by the way :> If I were you, I would start with SVE :D I like it a bit better than both RV and ES :brownchicken:
I have SVE and RSV, working well for a long time, I recently add East Scarp and Zuzu city, and walk to desert, as well as Durin Rest. It took some doing to make sure I had all the extra requirements all updated, but I have every thing working just fine.

I suggest you run a SMAPI PARSE LOG and post the link here, maybe we can tell you what you are missing or need to update. Follow the link given above or just goggle SMAPI PARSE LOG, The instructions on how to use it are on the page that opens, and are simple. Once you save and parse the log, the link to post will be at the top of the page in green box. Just copy and paste the link here. If I can learn it, so can you. I have run the log dozens of times and cleaned up 10,000+ errors.

And yes they do take a while to load and it may look like they are crashing, but it just needs time. It some times up to 5 minutes for my game and farm to load .

East Scarp > Ridgeside > SVE in my opinion.
I am sorry for necroposting this thread as I am sure it is probably long dead by now, however, I wish to dispell some misconceptions and assertions made in this thread.
It is my hope that people will come this far down and read this comment fully, I further hope that this helps the OP, assuming he/she/they/them has not already figured this information out themselves.

Below is 2 excerpts from the mods FAQ which is also be linked below:

~Is this mod compatible with Stardew Valley Expanded/East Scarp/Free Love/etc?~

"Yes! Ridgeside Village has no known incompatible mods so far. However, this is not to say no issues will arise when mixing and matching mods on an existing save - It just means you will have to manually fix these issues the first time they appear. See our common bugs wiki page for more info."

~Compatibility with Other Mods~

"RSV is pretty much compatible with any mod out there because it barely messes with vanilla content outside of a tiny patch on the Bus Stop and Backwoods maps. However, a few mods modify game mechanics in a way that can sometimes overlap with RSV" - ch20youk

I would highly recommend not only to the OP, but also anyone else who may come across this thread and took the time to read my comment, that they follow the link to the FAQ and read the FAQ, furthermore there is a list of about 12 different mods that RSV creators Rafseazz and mamaesh and the RSV council recommends to be played with Ridgeside Village.

Ultimately modding your game is about enhancing YOUR enjoyment and no one else's. While it is nice to read about others experiences, it is often better to do the due diligence that is required when stepping into the world of modding As a gamer and a modder, that makes us experimental gamers and playing a mod is no different than alpha/beta testing a game which we know is likely to be glitchy and bugged. I find it concerning that so many people felt compelled to post their personal experiences and likely didn't do their own due diligence and follow the troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue they faced, troubleshooting tips that are mentioned on the mod page on Nexus Mods.

I hope this has been helpful. Again I am sorry for necroposting.
