Festival of Ice in a No-Tools Run?
I've been doing a no-tools run for a bit now, and I'm currently on the day of the Festival of Ice. Because of the nature of the event I'm really pondering my perimeters I've set for myself, and I'm interested in opinions from other people.
My self-imposed rules are pretty much no using items that 1) are on the tools page of the wiki and 2) consume energy when used. Obviously there's no way to complete the game this way, it's more about just finding the limits of possibility.
To stop dragging things on, does it seem fair to the challenge's rules to actually compete in the ice fishing contest considering it's not even my fishing rod and it wouldn't be consuming energy or giving fishing experience? If anyone has a take, I'd love to hear it.

Fishing rod is a tool. You are also not allowed to play the fishing minigame in the fair, or the "ring the bell" game.

I disagree with Seftak.

It Rule 1: Technically doesn't show up on the tools page of the wiki.

Yes, the various fishing rods are listed there, but the one you use in the event is not the same as the ones you own yourself.
You don't get to attach bait or tackle to it.
It can't be brought anywhere you please. You only have access to it during the event; You get to keep all your other tools.
It gives no fishing experience, even fishing using the training rod gives fishing exp
It can't be used to catch fish that you get to keep.
It can't be used to catch trash items that you get to keep.

And Rule 2: It doesn't consume energy. 'Nuff said.

So I'd think it would be fair to use it and the minigames at the fair.

thanks to both of you for responding, I think I'm gonna go with Shurenai on this one. Since it's pretty much just a minigame which has rewards I won't really benefit from (besides the sailor hat), I do feel like it technically falls into the rules of the challenge and should be fair game.

Out of curiosity ... what are you doing about weapons?

I am allowing weapons since they don't consume energy when used and also have their own dedicated page on the wiki as apposed to being listed on the tools page itself. I'm not sure how other people do this challenge, but that's my way of looking at it.

also the challenge would be way harder without them since the process of getting the initial bombs and other supplies to become self-sufficient without tools has a big reliance on killing enemies that can drop bombs or dwarf scrolls, so it's partially QOL and partially me not wanting to be too hard on myself since I'm not the best Stardew Valley player out there.

I've never heard of a no-tools challenge before! This sounds super hard, which is very interesting to me.

When I'm done doing my current challenge I will have to give this one a try!
