It could partly be because connections go through Steam? Is there a way to enforce direct IP connection between us? One time i lost connection to Steam friends and then he dropped because of that.
For today i have portforwarded 24642 UDP as in guide and i recall there being some "host local" button in the options.
Edit: I guess "Start local co-op" means splitscreen game, so that's not related to this issue...
Nope we live about 20 mins away from eachother, its very random
Only other thing i also did from options was turn off the "pause game when window is inactive", but i don't think this was the issue. I just had my friend connect to my game only with IP address i gave in chat. If you don't know your IPv4 as hoster, this is one way to check:
https://www.whatismyip.com/
(And also portforwarded the router)
And he lives in different country than me, though not too far.
Settings>Library then change "Display size for library interface elements" to "small."
Settings>Library enable "Low bandwidth mode" and "Low Performance Mode".
The third option we changed was Settings>Interface then turn off "Enable GPU accelerated rendering in web views."
I haven't proved that yet cause my friends connect until night but it is supose to work
Get everyone playing to download Hamachi, its free and you can make your own "network" which everyone connects to, then they connect to you using LAN and your IP.
To get the hosts IP, on the host PC type CMD in the windows search bar, open command prompt and type IPconfig, look for IPv4 Address under "Ethernet adapter Hamachi:" and that's the number connecting players will need.
Once everyone is connected that way, the disconnects should be gone unless someone is having internet problems.
Try the one I posted above before you give up completely. We're up to about 14 hours now with zero disconnects since doing that.
If you know how to portforward you can just join directly and get a faster connection than you will with Hamachi. It is a basic thing i learned to do for a dozen other games before this. For example Minecraft and Terraria MP requires port forward with dedicated server.
Hamachi just simplifies it. And Stardew doesn't need the quick server response that a FPS does, we've had no issues with lag or anything.
Go a couple posts up, I explain how to get the hosts IP, and try to connect through that in lan. if that doesn't work, then try my other suggestion included. My and my friend made it all the way through year 2 and spring 3 without a single disconnect since using that.
