Gender options needed!
It's 2022, and playing Stardew Valley as a trans woman makes me both happy and sad. I love the game, but walking into the bathhouse and having to choose one bathroom feels so silly in a game that otherwise lets you be whoever you want. And why not be able to pick a nonbinary character from the getgo? It wouldn't take too many changes in the game--just need a "they" pronoun option, etc.

I know it might sound like a small thing, but it goes a really long way toward the health of the game to not reinforce the gender binary.

To thine own self be true. As long as you are not harming another (Lot of stipulations regarding them hurting you) I say live your life your way.

But with regards to the OPs complaint Society makes a lot of compromises in order to exist. Lots of those compromises aren't pretty and life is not even remotely fair. You can always mod the game yourself, if you want this badly enough.

Modding Society...Well I aint going to try to dissuade you. Just hope you are ready for a struggle you may not win.

This may not be exactly what you're looking for, but there is a gender neutrality mod:
https://www.nexusmods.com/stardewvalley/mods/722
It has quite a few customization options.

I would actually dislike to see this added into the game. Because it would be another game to bow down to twitter like Battlefield 5 did

It might be coming in a future update if it isn't too complicated when it comes to the actual coding. I think at the time this game was developed and released this whole discussion was pretty much fresh out of the oven still. I am under the impression that the developer is very inclusive when it comes to the LGBT community. I think this is also something you see more and more not only out in the real world but also in the gaming industry which is really nice.

But for the time being I think you might be better off looking towards the modding community (I see you have already been provided a link to the main modding community for Stardew Valley) :>

I don't really see how adding choices to character creation is a bad thing or bowing down to twitter. It doesn't hurt anyone to add some more options, in fact it would make people happy, and that's the point of feel-good games like these, after all.

Ya know, it's not "bowing down to twitter" for trying to take care of your customers. There doesn't have to be the huge culture war about these things. The question only needs to be "Do my customers want this?" and if the answer is yes, who gives a ♥♥♥♥ what's going on over at Twitter. People need to stop living their lives as if the stupid ♥♥♥♥ people say online matters.

To be fair though, there is actually a way to change your gender in the middle of a game once you gain access to the basement of the Wizard's Tower[stardewvalleywiki.com] so you're not exactly "forced" into the decision you make at the beginning. Simply reach 4 hearts with the Wizard or complete his Magic Ink quest to gain access to his basement where you'll find The Shrine of Illusions[stardewvalleywiki.com].

Of course it isn't. Also, given how other and much bigger game series has already taken the whole non-binary spectrum into account this shouldn't be that much of a shock or a deal breaker for that matter since we are talking about an option, lol. Society is changing, always has and always will and we can have all sorts of opinions about that but it's not like having this option for Stardew Valley would impact the gaming industry or society for that matter negatively. It is an option, after all.

Oh how will you survive, so horrible for there to be an option you personally won't use. And it wouldn't in any way be "bowing down to Twitter", it would simply be listening to something that some people who enjoy the game would like (without any negative consequences for people who don't want it)

since this game is FINISHED, there wont be any further updates from the creator, he's working on a new game. . If some one wants this option, they should design a mod for it, then only those who want it have to see it in the game.
You can just about have what ever you want in this game --- if you create the mods.

Incorrect. It was stated as late as in March this year that future updates for Stardew Valley is very possible but that it is unlikely to be something as big as the 1.5 update. Also 1.6 IS coming. It will be mostly a modding focused update but also with some new additional content though nothing major according to ConcernedApe himself.
