out of curiosity how hard is it to obtain the auto petter from skull caverns?
Like I want to get 2 but is that realistic to get 2?

It's very rare to even run across a treasure room unless you're speeding down levels with staircases/mega bombs. The chances of running into a treasure room past floor 10 is about 3% in the best luck rolls, and literally impossible in with the worst luck. After that there's a less than 4% chance you will get an auto-petter from each chest.

Basically it's super rare to find one in the skull caverns with normal play, but it's also one of the only ways to get one if you follow the Community Center route. You can definitely grind it out with enough stone and luck boosting food, just be sure to only try on high luck days.

you should get the auto petter when you reach level 100 for the first time as requested by Mr Qi.
There is always a treasure room at level 100, and I have returned there several time, and gotten an auto petter at least 3 times, while getting some other treasure other times.

For the easiest way to get there, I use both the tractor mod and elevator mod,
If you don't want to use mods, then playing co-op makes Skull cavern slightly easier, as you can take turns healing and eating. When doing the mine together the levels don't reset as long as one person remains in the mine, so you can take turns returning to the entrance to heal or empty your inventory in to chest if you get full.

never seen a autopetter in all my game times, lvl 100 SC Chest never had one as well, so what soaring says is mostly a effect of his/her million mods....

my finding the Auto-petter has nothing to do with mods. The Wiki says : "It can also be found in Skull Cavern treasure chests. Additionally, it can be obtained by killing monsters or breaking crates/barrels as a special item in The Mines during the Danger In The Deep quest or after activating the Shrine of Challenge."
And Mr. Qi's quests for you get to level 100 in Skull Cavern is a Vanilla event, as well as the Danger in the Deep quest. You can do those quests as many times as you want, it increase the chance of getting auto-petters. Mining on lucky days helps too, Once I finish the Danger in the Deep quest, I leave the mine on danger mode too, which increases chances of getting the auto-petters each time you go thru the mine.
The Tractor mod just makes going into Skull Cavern easier and faster, and I go there repeatedly until I get enough auto-petters. And I don't stop at level 100, I continue down as the deeper you go the more valuable loot you get per level, more Iridium, more prismatic shards, etc.

it's too rare to rely on random drop. just purchase one, it's cheap. i'm currently at lvl 500-600 in skull cavern (elevator mod for every 10 floors). just getting some hats and cheap loot like tree sapling or food.

- Stockpile on Jades (with crystalarium)
- Exchange said Jades for staircases on a Sunday at the merchant located in the desert.
- Wait for a max luck day and stack on any + luck item and food you can find; the more luck you can get, the better your chances are to find treasure rooms.
- Go to the skull cavern and spam staircases until you find an auto petter inside a treasure room.
- If you don't find any auto-petter; close the game and start over until you find one.

I got my first auto-petter very quickly, then 3 in a single run on another day.

It's pure RNG. Could be as fast as it has been for me; or it could take ages tho I doubt it would since the drop rate is still quite high and the item pool isn't very extensive.

I'd give it about a hour or two worst case. Good luck! :)

if you used crystalarium how meany would you want producing jades for the staircase way?

you'll want a few hundred jades to trade for staircases - fill a shed with crystariums and put jade in all of them, then within a few weeks you'll have hundreds. take 300~ to the skull caverns on a high luck day, eat a lucky lunch or a spicy eel, and spam staircases to go down the levels and get every treasure level along the way. you'll get a few auto petters this way, i've got 10 now lol

Luck rings, luck food, on a lucky day gets the treasure room frequency pretty high. Make sure to do the rabbits foot to the trucker from the secret note.

While technically the % never gets very high (see above poster) no RNG is true random. There is a mod that reads your seed and tells you the floors the seed high rolls on so you can use that to chase treasure rooms without farming stairs items. I forget its name though. I want to say stardew predictor or something like that.
