Lack of diversity in game / only 2 persons of color

First of all, love Stardew Valley and already more than 100 hours in but the lack of diversity is kind of oldschool, isn't it?
Concerned Ape had more than one time the chance to include more POC characters and the Ginger Island update would have been the perfect opportunity but he kind of ignored the fanbase.
Especially if you keep the BLM-movement in mind and all the bad stuff that has happened to black folks.

And c'mon, Demetrius wants a watermelon for his project?

Diversity for the sake of diversity is the worse kind of diversity. You sound like the kind of guy who got outraged when a game happening in a majorly diverse country has a majority of diverse enemies.

I think the game is quite fair when it comes to diversity. I think the problem here occurs mostly when you look at the "amount" instead of the fact that colored npcs are indeed included. The future of this game will for the most part be in the hands of mod authors given the fact that it is essentially finished. The modding community on nexus is very active with new mods being published weekly and most authors seems to be open for suggestions.

OP feels like they want to stir up sh*t for the sake of it. The moment they talked about BLM and melons I was gone. It has nothing to do with the game. The cliche that Black people love melons is an US-American thing. BLM is also an American thing. People of all kinds of ethnicity and religion are getting opressed in the real world.

But OP goes hard on American black = the only diversity. Why no Asians or Lations? OP makes no sense and is quick to throw around the "racist" accusation.

Edit: Diversity can also mean much more things then how we all look like.

I don't think they are wrong for wanting more diversity, but their insinuations here are pretty offensive and probably what gets many upset. I realise there are vultures here who take every chance they get to bicker, but you also have the choice of how you want to go about something. A white, narrow minded creator would not include the option to create a farmer or farmers (depending on if you are in multiplayer) of color in their game and we would definitely not see npcs like Maru, Demetrius and the desert trader. I think it is very unfair to directly or indirectly call the developer a racist and/or accuse him of being non inclusive.

I mentioned mods before because like I said, this is where one will find most of the new content for the game. Even the next update for the game (1.6) will be mostly mod focused. Mods are great in the sense that they let you customize the game more to your personal liking. I am sure there will be more diversity mods if the demand for them are large enough. But keep in mind that mod authors work for free while also trying to maintain a real life.

I'd love more diversity, too, but don't berate the game for the lack of it because it comes off as pretentious and kinda white knighting kinda thing, plus as others have said, there are mods that add diversity.
