I rest my case, your honor.
Your point being exactly what?
I agree the game is -somewhat disappointingly- not very diverse, and I feel like Ginger Island is flawed/lackluster. But.. there's been plenty of discussion on that subject over the years that one can presumably find if they want to go looking for it. I think the game's TvTropes page actually mentions it too. So, I don't feel there's anything really new to say about it, just covering over old ground for the new players maybe. For that purpose, I'll just post one link about the Ginger Island update that I found interesting:
https://jojaqualityheadcanons.tumblr.com/post/646056190629052416
And here are a few relevant mods that I don't think have been posted yet:
Ginger Island NPC Overhaul: https://www.nexusmods.com/stardewvalley/mods/9242
This would be an alternate to 'Emyn's Diverse Ginger Island', already linked in another post above. I'd say it's more of a 'Vanilla Plus' level of overhaul compared to Emyn's mod, with looks more like a total conversion. I'm using this one right now, as I figured it would be more easily compatible with my other mods that touch on Leo and Ginger Island. Seems bug free so far, but I only got to Ginger Island recently.
Emyn's Alternate Festivals: https://www.nexusmods.com/stardewvalley/mods/9867
This changes several of the festivals, though you can turn them each on and off in the config. In particular, I'd praise it for making the Egg Hunt and Feast of the Winter Star festivals look less like a lazy copy of Easter and Christmas. I did find the Winter Star tilesheet changes a bit buggy though. I found line 408 in the content file had "Maps/winter_town" as it's "Target" when it should have been pointing at "Maps/winter_outdoorsTileSheet". Making that change fixed most of the visual bugs there.
Video games are a form of art, not a tool to push an agenda. Also, books and movies should stop trying to do the same thing for that exact same reason.
All art has an agenda.
I like to turn my brain off from time to time too.
But you're literally asking for art to stop being art.
SDV isn't realistic (thankfully!) No white people are being kicked in the head. No oriental ladies are being beaten into comas. It's a graffiti-clear, nice place. We play there because it is a sweet place and we can relax.
Go play GTA, Sims or Bum Simulator to live that urban b.s. scene. This is a fantasy-rural area with magic faeries, etc. Not a load of thugs there. 13%, mostly urban - NOT SDV.
Use your brain. (Why does Barry Obama live in Martha's Vineyard?)
I know some people don't like the idea of mods, which is fine, but that is what is available and the modding community is also the future of this game when it comes to new content and changes. ConcernedApe is not going to add more colored npcs because of this post, and he shouldn't have to either. Use what is at hand, or don't. It is your choice.
There's a difference between art having an agenda, and art trying to push an agenda if that makes sense. The latter feels like it's out of place, trying to force real world politics where they don't belong; whereas the former does not, making it feel natural within the story and its lore.
I mean, we have greedy corporations trying to ruin the lives of many for their own greed which is a common thing in the real world, but it happens in the game too as we can see with the Joja Corporation. At no point does that feel forced, rather it fits in perfectly with the overall themes the game is trying to communicate to the player, as an example.
I hope I did a better job of describing what I really meant, and I'm sure someone can explain it better than I can.
