Qi Coins and the Casino

I've been wanting to play some of the games at the casino just for fun but also to get the the alien scarecrow. My only hesitation is whether or not the balance of your Qi Coins stay the same even after you leave the desert or do you lose them all after going back home? I would think that you could have a remaining balance that everytime you go to the casino you have the same amount of Qi Coins as when you last went there, but I'm not sure and don't want to waist a ton of gold on them just to lose them.
