Gamepad controls when switching between tools in toolbar
I am playing on linux, using a iBuffalo SNES gamepad, and it is working okay. The only big thing that I cannot do using only my controller is choose/switch the tool I am currently using. It is annoying to reach forward and press the number keys to switch tool.

I would like to be able to cycle (horizontally) between all the stuff in the toolbar, using the L/R trigger buttons (of which there are only 2 on a SNES controller). I do not want to use the 1,2,3,4 etc. buttons on my keyboard to choose tool.

Currently, the L/R buttons are mapped to something, although I do not know what they do - when I press them, the toolbar sort of twitches/bobs/bounces a little bit and a sound is played, but nothing else happens as far as I can see.

One way I could get it to work, is to use an external program called qjoypad to map the L/R buttons to something on the keyboard. The question is,

1. What button(s) on the keyboard cycles through the toolbar, choosing which tool I am currently using?

2. Is there any mod that lets me change the keybinds somehow?

also

3. What is the squiggling/twitching/bobbing movement of the toolbar when pressing L/R described above? o__O

and

4. Do you have any tips for me otherwise, regarding playing with a SNES controller?

Thanks for a great game, and for supporting linux!

Try binding to mousewheel up and down. I don't know if any keyboard keys can be set up to scroll through the hotbar. Otherwise perhaps you will need a more modern style controller which might already have buttons set up to do that.

Hmm... you're asking a lot of an SNES controller, which doesn't have quite enough buttons for this job.

1) Ordinarily, for a controller (which has an Xbox 360-style controller in mind), the Left and Right Triggers (or ZL and ZR on a Nintendo controller) is what cycles through tools.

2) I'm not familar with modding for this game, so I wouldn't know. I'm sure there are ways to remap buttons.
But even if there is, again, you're asking quite a lot of an SNES controller.

3) The reason your toolbar "twitches" is because you later on buy bigger backpacks, which unlock a second and third row of toolbars.
Of which the shoulder buttons (aka. the Left and Right Bumpers, or L/R on a Nintendo controller) switch between.

Until you have those backpack expansions, when you try to switch to another row, the toolbar twitches because it doesn't have another row to switch to.

Well, using qjoypad I set my shoulder buttons (L/R) to scroll up and down, and there you go! Works very well, except that they also register as switching row so the twitching persists... Dunno how to fix that. I'll just not get that backpack expansion I guess! Or is there a way to demap them so to say?

Thanks alot for your help, so quickly also!
