There are a few ways you can better organise or manage your sheds - you can place signs right outside the sheds so you know what they're for before you go inside and others can even see what they're for when you share a screenshot of your whole farm, you could try grouping them together if you find keeping track of where they are difficult, and, as of the 1.5 update, sheds can now be repainted so you can change their colours according to their purpose. My furnace shed uses flame colours, for example.
But in the end, it's all up to you to decide what to do with them and what goes inside.
However on one of my farms, I decided to construct my "fences" out of the Machines, and I actually found this to be an elegant solution to the whole "fences degrade over time" predicament, because Machines never degrade haha, and it's pretty convenient to click them as I'm running on by throughout the day. (I would add a couple fence posts + gate in a few locations also, to get inside.)
My sheds contain 100% kegs for the first one and 100% casks the next 3. I dont event need to have space between machines with this mod and dont even need to enter the shed, just check the content of the chests.
