No. Only if you save the previous save files. If you don't open them, play them, then go to bed so that the game saves while HAVING SVD INSTALLED, then nothing will happen to your old save file.

Your save files can't be affected if they never got saved while having mods installed.

It will only affect a save file if you are using it and overwrite it while having the expanded mod installed. It is recommended to start a new game after installing the expanded mod due to all the changes to the maps and so that certain events that usually triggers on a certain date makes more sense. :brownchicken:

What happens if you remove stardew expanded and try to run a save with it ?
Does it not run at all, or is all bonus content removed ?

Probably end up with a corrupted save file. Most mods are okay to remove and not really worry too much about messing up your save file. However, mods that add new items, locations, npcs, etc or even some player customization options can cause issues. If the mods somehow modifies your save file then taking it out will not be a good idea.

I did that once, and the game simply crashed while loading. It's one of those heavy mods that makes a lot of changes to the game so such a save file will require it in order to continue to work properly (or at all). If you are unsure about the expanded mod you can read up on exactly what it adds, and maybe try it out on a new save for a week or two in game. Though a lot of content in the expanded mod is also late game, but you can at least get a feeling when it comes to the maps and npcs :>

Thanks.
I am currently on a new save with expanded an the new content is indeed quite late. On my 3rd in game year, I'm still getting new things on occasion.
Can I have a save file with Expanded mod and one without it like what if I want to play co-op with a friend but I don’t want the mod to mess up our save together

Yes, just have two sace files. Start the game without smapi and pick the non-modded save when you play co-op.

Still possible even if Smapi installed. You can still run a pure vanilla game without mod on Smapi
