Steam Workshop
Are we going to get Steam Workshop for Stardew Valley? It would make modding a hell of a lot easier. Is there a reason why SV doesn't have one?

I'm pretty annoyed about that too. Starbound, also made by Chucklefish, gets a workshop, but SV doesn't get one. IT'S NOT FAIR.

Chucklefish isnt the developer for Stardew valley. We're not getting workshop for this game because SMAPI only works with it. ConcernedApe (from what dino has mentioned) was looking into it, but that's about it. So just calm down and relax.

Chucklefish didn't make Stardew, Concerned Ape did, he made his own coding which doens;t work with Workshop, enough said, end of story, this has been answered multiple times.

if workshop was to be added almost all the code would have to be re-written (including MP code) and just to remind you that MP has already had 15000 lines of code re-written

I tend to agree, that is why i keep telling people there will be no workshop supposrt, the entire game would have to have the code completely rewritten, and I'm sorry, but in my honest opinion, Workshop Support isn;t totally worth that for me

It wouldn't require the code to be massively rewritten. If that was true modding in the game wouldn't work as it is. All they would really need to do for workshop support is to implement an equivalent of what SMAPI already does to the game and then tie it to the workshop so that any files downloaded from the workshop get placed in the appropriate folder for the system to implent and there you go, workshop support (maybe not the neatest implementation but it would be functional workshop support).

Despite that I still do feel it's unlikely it will ever actually be implemented, especially since unless they got the rights to use SMAPI itself for this most mods that already exist would likely need to be adjusted to work with the new system which would end up killing off pretty much every mod out there whose creator isn't still actively updating it. And all the mod authors trying to make mods would have to readjust to the new system when they are already used to the current one. Honestly it would end up being more trouble for the modding community than to the devs implementing it.

I'm just saying that it was also made by Chucklefish, and SV is part Chucklefish, part ConcernedApe.

The only thing Chucklefish is making is MP, everything else is soley Concerned Ape, Chuckelfish is just the publisher

Except it isn't. ConcernedApe made the entire game solo with Chucklefish being just the publisher. The only involvement Chucklefish has with the game otherwise is that they are handling the multiplayer post launch. But regardless of that they didn't make any of the main game. The core code is all ConcernedApe's and the design is all ConcernedApe.

Ahh, so it's a code thing. Understood. I have never used SMAPI, but I have modded Stardew pretty extensively - I just avoid the mods that require SMAPI. It's a shame we can't get the Workshop for non-SMAPI things, but I suppose it is what it is. Thanks for the responses, all.

It's pretty annoying to not have steam WS support. WS is a very convenient way to gather and manage mods. And unless devs decide to walk the extra mile and implement a WS equivalent integrated in the game all by themselves (like Wube did with Factorio for example, in their case one can't really complain about anything) it's always a big loss for users when devs decides to not take advantage of it.

Its called Nexus mods, its so easy to just download smapi and drag and drop mod files into the mods folder. like, its as easy as putting on a shoe man, i mean seriously wtf is there to complain about? just use the nexus.

Why do you self-entitled little ***** think you are owed a workshop, or anything for that matter, just because you want to mod the product?

actually, he never said that he wants to be in control, he was just stating his opinion. has nothing to do with self entitlement either.
i can understand when people get frustrated when threads with the same topic appear over and over again. this workshop question has been answered numerous times and op could have found an answer with a quick google search so i really dont blame him.

you do you and we will do us? well..maybe you should start taking your own adivce.
