Your best bet before Grandpas evaluation and the reward that follows IF he is pleased, is the skull cavern. Go get some now! :> #YouCanDoIt

It's a fabulous event that happens at the beginning of the third year. A cutscene plays with Grandpas ghost haunting your dreams, and he basically let's you know what he thinks about your progress as a farmer. After this scene, and after exiting the house, a short cutscene will play focusing on Grandpas shrine. If four candles are lit, that means you can go grab the reward from the shrine. If you get less than four candles lit, that means you have to improve your lifestyle as a farmer! You can then at a later time summon Grandpa at the shrine using a diamond for a new and hopefully better evaluation. So the goal is to get four candles lit. :brownchicken:

If you're feeling up for it and are able to handle such a thing, you can also set up a purple slime farm if you need iridium fast, since all purple slimes have a chance to drop iridium ore and even iridium bars. If you have a Slime Hutch setup on your farm, there's a chance you'll receive slime eggs after killing slimes in the mines, and the purple slime eggs dropped from purple slimes found in the skull cavern are what you want for this.

Then, just hatch them in a slime incubator (2 iridium bars and 100 slime at combat level 8) and if you end up with at least two slimes of opposite genders to each other (sadly, it's random), they'll eventually produce a baby slime which will grow up to be a strong, healthy adult that will also have their own children, whereas the original parents are likely to produce even more offspring that will eventually mature and produce their own offspring and so on. :slimehappy:

For best results, raise them outdoors since the slime hutch can only hold a maximum of 20 slimes, whereas there doesn't seem to be a population limit for slimes raised outdoors. Knowing this, I even turned the whole valley into Slime Valley! Once you end up with a lot of purple slimes, you can then start killing them off with a good chance of getting a decent amount of iridium from them. If you leave some alive, you can let their numbers continue to grow afterwards to eventually repeat the cycle once more. At least it saves having to go into the deeper floors of the skull cavern for an abundant source of iridium later!

Slimes on the farm also have a chance to escape at night even if you fence them in, but slimes raised anywhere else won't no matter what! If you don't want your slimes to damage and possibly kill you however, make sure you're wearing the slime charmer ring which you can get from killing 1,000 slimes in the mines.

Yeah I know, I got a little too addicted to slime farming in this game...

No worries dear. I hope you enjoy the game :> Besides reporting harmful posts that the very capable and helpful moderators here will handle splendidly, there is also the option to block users that you feel are creating negativity for you. When you block someone you won't have to read their posts on forums. Just a tip :brownchicken:

The easiest way to get Iridium ore is the Skull Caverns. You will need to get to the deep floors (>50) in order to start getting a lot of iridium. In order to progress quickly down to floor 50+, you should bring a bunch of Bombs and/or a bunch of Staircases. You can get Staircases from the Desert Trader on Sundays by trading Jade (which you should reproduce in Crystalariums). You can buy Bombs from the Dwarf in the regular mine, or you can craft them. You could also try using Explosive Ammo in the slingshot; I've seen some streamers do that but personally I stick to Bombs + Staircases. Your goal is to bypass floors 1-49 ASAP because they are poor in resources.

Once you get to floor 50+, you will start encountering a lot of iridum ore + the purple bats also drop ore. In order to maximize your returns, you should get to the desert / Skull Cavern as early as possible (e.g., Desert totem) and you should go on a "good luck" day (check your TV). You can also equip a Luck Ring and eat Spicy Eel + drink Ginger Ale for more +luck buffs. Once you get good at the Skull Caverns, you can easily make like 200 ore in a day, or maybe even more than me.

I agree with basically everything you wrote but I would like to mention that this is actually a very NEAT way of botching your way through the skull cavern fast and easy :D It takes some practice though, and getting used to the slingshot. But it's incredibly fun once you have got the hang of it and worked up a good pace. This is usually how I breeze through the skull cavern myself ^.^

Yeah I also play with a controller, and I think the Explosive Ammo is best suited for mouse/keyboard players.

I just get myself a lot of bombs before I make the trip down and make my way as deep as I possibly can that way. I also try to get there as early as I can to maximise the time I have to explore. The more time you have, the better! You can craft a Desert Warp Totem or exchange 3 Omni Geodes for one from the Desert Trader to get to the desert before Pam allows you to get there via bus.

The reason I do this and not the "Jade to Staircase" trick is because I don't want to get scolded by Mr. Qi for using too many staircases when I reach floor 100 for the first time after finding his secret note. That, and crafting crystalariums to farm Jades requires iridium bars anyway which aren't easy to get otherwise. :stardrop:

Or just use the time control mod and literally pause the time. :)
