Remote play together
Can someone please explain to me step by step how do I get my wife to use remote play together for Stardew Valley?

I see it pop up when I start the game, so I wanted to give it a try. I created a coop game with two cabins, I opened friends list, I invited her to remote play together, but all she sees is my screen, and does not have her own character. The only way she can play is if I click on the buttons that give her mouse and keyboard controls, but it's the main character that I play, not another character of her own.

I also tried doing single player with two cabins, then I went into options and I clicked on launch local coop, and it says on the screen press "=" to continue or press "b" for back. Well she was pressing "=", I even walked over and did it too, but nothing happens. I can't figure out a way to get her to play!

Go to steam settings, top left, then find remote play and enable it. Then pair the device your wife is using.

It is enabled, so I am able to invite her to play, I just don't understand how to actually get her to play in the game

I can't really help more than that I'm afraid.

So it's not possible for my wife to use remote play together from her PC unless I plug a controller into my computer?? How does that even make sense

Just a guess. Game may not know if you pressed a controller button or if the button press was simulated via remote play, but it does know that if a controller is plugged in it should listen for those button presses.

I don't have a controller, we only have two PCs

Okay, I think I finally figured this all out. This is really just a big scam from steam, and unfortunately Stardew Valley gets caught in the crossfire. It's unfortunate that developers have no control over such things for their own games.

Steam remote play is just to stream a game to another computer and stream the inputs back. If you can't play the game in multiplayer with one pc then you will not be able to play with two.

However if you are not using laptops or have usb keyboards and mice you can use https://universalsplitscreen.github.io/docs/guides/stardewvalley/ to play on a single computer with multiple keyboards and mice plugged into a single computer.

The functionality is actually quite clear, if you read anything about it. You not being able to comprehent it doesn't make it a scam. It definitely fills the niche of getting friends together into couch coop games, while not being able to play it on the same PC.

And overall just buy the game, if you want to play it on 2 PCs. It's not that expensive to begin with and a great investment for this game.

Remote Play is actually working as intended seeing as you explain yourself, can invite the other player and the player is seeing your screen.

What remote play does is not lease your game for someone to play as their own player.
But "stream" your game. So for party games that share the same screen this is perfect.
For Split-screen games less so because you both see the entire screen with the split.

And games that have no "splitscreen/same screen" multiplayer, remote play is not supported.

Whenever you load up a game in stardew you need to enable multiplayer.
"Start/esc" > Options (the gamepad icon) > Scroll down and enable "start local coop"

Now if your other player has joined via remote play, they need to press start to join the game. They will be promptes to create a "farm" character, or load an existing one.

Remote play enables you both to either use gamepads or if one of you needs to use the mouse and keyboard.
I would recommend following these steps with Keyboard controll given to her from the start of the remote play session.

Did this as recently as last night with my wife,

quite literally everyone in this thread (except Big Snack) have no idea what they're talking about, all you need is a controller on the hosts side for Remote Play Stardew, and have the host play as the second player, its incredibly simple and everyone who says RolyPoly can't do it are wrong

I have never had that issue but all I can think of is have her invite you as opposed to you joining

That's what she did.
Hi! I'm afraid I'm a bit late to answer this, but, you or your wife have to have a control to play, a control like the xbox control, because the game only recognizes a second player with a control like that, by the way, the sign that shows like "=" to join is not a "=", it is the "start" button from the xbox controller
