Tornadoes!
Why not? Farm life (at least in the U.S.) always brings the risk of tornadoes. So why not make it so that you can build a storm shelter for when a tornado spawns. The tornado can make a streak of distruction across your farm, destroying a bunch of crops. It would add something challenging to the gameplay.

Edit: Guys, I made this post when I was like 13 or 14 years old. It has been over 5 years. Please stop necroing this post.

Not all farms are in Tornado zones in the US.

That just sounds unneccessary.

I got enough anxiety just trying to plant some pumpkins with just enough time left in the fall season to have them finish growing, thank you very much.

People complain when a weed breaks a floor tile. I can't imagine destroying your farm and making the game needlessly harder would be fun for most people... It's challenging enough for the average player meeting grandpa's deadline by year 3, and for the more... uh... hardcore players, who have 500+ hours, it would just be an annoyance.

Why? it's completely unnecessary to add tornadoes to this.

I personally like the idea. But i think there needs to be an option to turn off "Natural disasters" for people who dont like the idea.

Not all farms can grow every type of vegtable/fruit in the same area either.

Thats part of the challenge. Possibly growing them in a Greenhouse can help ensure they stay safe. Harvest moon had natural disasters were you couldnt leave your home that day during it. Crops would get destroyed(it was like 1 out of every 20 crops though)

Plant them sooner, less anxiety.

Simcity has natural disasters, its one of the things that made it unique, some poeple enjoy rebuilding.

Yeah, except Maxis has thousands, if not more people working for them, CA is one guy, and expecting him to code something in that maybe a handful of people would actually want, is very unrealistic.
Wingweaver Sep 20, 2017 @ 10:42am
Not expecting him to do anything, I was just commenting I liked the idea and its not unheard of in other games.

Still, if your Crop that took several real-time Hours to grow isnt fun, and the green house is:
1 made out of glass, so how would that offer protection
2 it has a miniscule amount space for crops

Abd because a old game did it it isn't automatically ok

Greenhouse is made from the magical spirits of the forest so it can be argued it would withstand a tornado. The original Harvest moon for the playstation actually had the greenhouse get destroyed during a hurricane.

What does space have to do with growing melons? unless it has to do with costs, then why are you growing melons? Blue berrys would net you more at a faster pace than melons would in a single season. after taking off the cost of the seeds, which is actually the same coincidentally.

The dev already stated he took alot of inspiration from Harvest moon. He wanted to make it better. You cant completely ignore the inspiration this game took from Harvest moon. Making it different is whats great, doesnt mean every single thing needs to be in it, also doesnt mean every single thing doesnt. I did state above:

I need space for $$$ of course, more tiltable ground ,more crops, more sales, more money. And if you dont like the melon comparison, lets do it with cauliflowers. Basically the same crops idea, takes longer but gives more money.

Harvest moon destructable green house didn't have anything to do with what i said or what you said. You said 'possibly growing them in a greenhouse to ensure they stay save'.

And I know it has inspiration of harvest moon. Because i played one on an emulator (didn't get far though)
