Yes, the Wooden Sword is better than the Rusty Sword. Hover over them, it should give you the damage they do.
You can click and move boots and rings and hats to your character when you open your inventory by pressing E.
"Wooden Blade".
It's better than the Rusty Sword, but not as good as the Steel Smallsword from level 20, so I don't imagine many people bothered to buy it.
Random chance is funny like that.
Early in my first playthrough, I found a Prismatic Shard. I donated it to the museum.
Almost immediately after that I found another. I thought "Oh, it looks like these things aren't that uncommon" and sold it.
Then I saw the hint on the tombstone and realized I needed one more Shard.
Obviously it took nearly a year before I found it.
