If you still want to level up fishing without doing it, you can use crab pot but it might take forever.
Have a nice day!

My Mining perks give me more money from gems... but that's still only like 5k per day tops. My Quarry is filled with maple trees that I'm slowly building tappers for... but that's currently only 6k per week. I'm not Farming at all.
I'm slowly building up a massive slime ranch. In the meantime, I can go Fishing and earn like 9k per day. I'm fishing a LOT to buy iridium sprinklers, to build more fish ponds and slime hutches, to upgrade my equipment...
Except for festivals, I don't think I've done any fishing since I completed the fish collection. There are better ways to make money when you get to that point.
If you get a lava eel pond, though, they'll reproduce over time! Free spicy eels and good priced roe!
I'm super disappointed the new fish in 1.5 aren't worth that much. I wish it was an endgame fishing area, but instead it's... almost exactly the same profit as fishing at home. I'm fishing there on my off days just to get a few walnuts, mainly, but after I get them all then there's no real incentive to ever go back. :S Once I get my fish ponds, tree tappers and slime hutches up and running, though, there won't be any real reason to properly fish anymore, other than just for fun. It just takes forever to get up and running.
I think each hutch costs 20k, for the construction and sprinkler, and then has to wait for the eggs to hatch and breed more. Fish ponds also take basically a full season to fill up. Robin is working around the clock on my farm while I'm demolishing the mines to get more tree tappers and, eventually, a ton of solar panels. :D
Ah, I haven't reached that point yet on my current run but that's a good tip (thanks). I tend to forget about the top of the volcano o.o I am actually using a mod called Fishing Made Easy Suite[www.nexusmods.com] and like the name suggests you can make fishing a lot easier if you are struggling with it and also harder if you want more challenge and this is why I am currently using it. I have increased the difficulty and also the actual profit from the fishes :> It's only fair I should earn more money if fishies are harder than normal to catch. But you can also just increase the profit if you want to (I have it on +300% at the moment).
I also wish there was MORE types of fishes on Ginger Island o.o The ones present are pretty, but not very challenging and I think there could have been a few more types :> But I am not gonna complain. The popular expansion mods (like expanded and ridgeside) adds more fishies. Good luck with those slimes
I mostly ignored it after I completed the community center, but I still have to catch the legendary fishes. Didn't care about those yet.
