Language for Vietnam?
I came from VietNam , I like this game very much and played it everyday, but because my English is not very good, so I can only understand a little bit of information about the game if I don't use Wikipedia. So I really hope the developers can considerate about adding the Vietnamese language into the game.

I don't know if it's the developer or the publisher who decides what languages get translations. But they have been slow or unwilling to commission translations.

French people keep asking for one. I've seen Italian people asking, and a Polish person asked recently.

Don't know if there ever will be any more translations.

It's not really a question of skill.

Becoming proficient enough in a language to not suffer any misunderstanding issues or struggle with uncommon expressions while playing (which can be frustrating and break immersion) requires an enormous time commitment and a lot of practice.

Not everyone has the time or will.

Comparatively, you can simply have a translation made, then the game suddenly becomes more accessible to tens of millions of people.

Not so simple, really. First, you have to have a method for providing all the necessary text to be translated. If you already have a method for doing so, great. You also need a font that can support the new character set without creating new problems with text box boundaries, etc. Now you need to actually pay for said translation, and hope the net result is positive. If it costs you $5,000 to get a full translation and additional necessary testing done, then you need to look at how many copies you need to sell in order for it to be worth the time and expense. Sure, it might be accessible to "tens of millions" of people, but how many of them are actually going to come pay full price for it. 30-40? Not worth it.

They're already had a bunch of translations made, so they definitely have a method of providing the text.

Fonts are super easy.

I highly doubt that, if they made a French translation, only 35 people out of the 70 million potential new players would buy it. They already made a German translation and the number of potential players was identical.

This is why people are puzzled about the lack of languages the game is available in.

Right, and that's the reason why EFIGS is the generally accepted batch of languages. I can understand some of the confusion, but a Vietnamese port is not likely to generate anywhere near the sales of a French or German port. I was merely pointing out that "simply have a translation made" isn't really an adequate summary of the entire process.
Pixel Peeper Oct 23, 2017 @ 12:57pm
Of course, I wouldn't expect to see an Icelandic translation.

But for the most part, the process is streamlined enough that it would be easy to commission a translation should it be estimated that such a translation would be profitable.

I guess my point was... if they didn't bother making a French translation, then translations really aren't a priority.

On the developer's website, they had a poll for translations. French and certain others weren't considered urgent at the time, due to the lack of people requesting for it. So, for people requesting languages now went to his twitter or website and asked about it, they'd have more feedback than just sitting there wishing for their main language to pop into the game.

Huh.

Making a poll that no one's going to see is kind of a dumb way to estimate the number of potential buyers. I also wouldn't expect most people to do more than simply look at the game's store page, see their language isn't there and move on.

Ah well. Dude's a programmer, not a businessman.

At our country, Vietnam, there was a group who translated the game to Vietnamese, they cracked the game and there was many bugs, so I hope the developers to add Vietnamese into the game, thanks. :steamsad:

This is a complex question, on one hand I'd love it for people to get their games translated to their languages but at the same time, I have a hard time with some countries that are known for not wanting to learn English like the French and Italians, even people that work in buisnesses where it would be a very good idea to know English and they still refuse, its stupid. Not saying all Italians and French people feel like that but seem to be a common issue. Most understand English just fine.

Its one of the largest languages in the world, most wide spread for sure, learn it! I did not go to school for my English skills, I have just picked it up and was pretty fluent at it at a very young age, had a friend that spoke like 5 languages at the age of 7 or 8 so we spoke English so most other kids would not know what we where talking about! :D He was from Libanon and had been in several countries before he came to Sweden where live. Instead of asking for translations, try and play more games that require some reading in English.

One thing that does not help is countries that dub TV shows and such to their language, I think many countries has stopped doing it or to a much lesser extent now but I remember being in Germany many many years ago, everything was in German regardless of what you where watching on TV so no point in watching at all sadly. Its much easier if we all learn English then for ALL of us to learn every Language on the planet and try to translate every game to each language.

Not everyone has the time I've had to sit and pick up English, I get that, I dont have much of a life so been easier for me I guess. And I've had computers for 30 years, and Internet for almost as long, such things makes a huge difference, not all places on this planet has had Internet access widespread for that long or computers in widespread use, so I fully get that.

Also, being a gamer like my self having been in situations where I not only had to write and read in English alot, but speak too, such things helps aswell. MMO's, guilds, stuff like that where you interact alot with people from all over...

No harm in asking, maybe they will offer more translations, I dont know how many translations there is in the game now, not played it for a long time. I wanna go back to this game but never finding the energy to do so as with a massive pile of other games I miss but cant bring my self to play.

Sorry for this massive wall of text. I cant help my self....

It was more towards to see who actually needed it without having many posts about certain languages. Plus, there are a lot of people on his forums, just clearly not everyone from here knows of it. (I only found out from googling) But *shrugs* at least he was able to help some people. Maybe he'll add more if people mentioned it to where he can see it.
