How many bombs do I need for a good skull cavern run?

How many bombs, mega bombs and staircases do I need for a good skull cavern / irirdum run?

Minimum 200-300 bombs and stairs.

On a good day, with luck boosting food, I'd bring 20 staircases and about 50 bombs, 20 megabombs, and a slingshot with 100 explosive ammo on it bare minimum.

Megabombs for huge (like 20x20) rooms full of rocks, normal bombs for normal clusters of rocks, and explosive ammo for dispatching mummies or breaking iridium rocks that aren't in a cluster.

I got to level 100 with 100 bombs and 25 mega bombs. And one stair case tbh....
I also boosted my luck with food.

Not many. I got to level ~125 with 8 bombs and 15 Cherry Bombs. Crafted 1 staircase along the way. Just make sure to go on lucky day and it should be fairly easy to get deep.

I have never been able to get to level 125 without a fair amount of bombs. You should be able to mine the necessary to make your own mega bombs and the dwarf sells them. I'd try it out and see how you go. You'll be able to make an estimate for yourself, based on your own style that way.

You can now stack staircases.

With desert trader it is possible to trade jade for staircases. And jade can be farmed quite easily with crystalariums. Just set up around 6 of them and after a couple of days you won't even need a lot of bombs.
