How do I increase my fish pond capacity (Rainbow Trout)

So I currently have the max 3/3 rainbow trout in the pond but 2 problems seem to be happening.

1) I'm not getting the exclamation mark to increase the size
2) They never produce roe (or anything for that matter)

What do I need to do in order to get the size upgraded and have them begin producing items?

It can take a few days for the quest to pop up when fish are at maximum capacity. As for roe, I don't think any fish produce at 3, if they do it's very rare. Once the population is max (10) you should get 1-2 roe per day, or whatever item they might produce. IMO, fish ponds are extremely underwhelming.

I can confirm that fish produce roe no matter the current pond capacity, just not as often.

They produce roe regularly, I think it's a timed thing. I believe ponds with smaller population produce less and are slower to do so, but that's it. I don't think I get roe every single day with max population either (I think it's once every two days), but I collect more often and get more roe each time.
Fish ponds can make for some impressively valued products (see lava eels), and are worth building, but I don't think they're a decisive source of income.

I've been hearing rainbow trouts have a chance to spawn a prismatic shard, which I assume is the reason OP decided to use them in the first place.
I personally have a soft spot for the blobfish cause it can give you a pearl. It's an item with no utility but I wanna have the shiny thing.

i have 10 fish ponds, all with different fish. The re-population rate is slower with rare fish and it may take several days for the exclamation point to appear, but they will produce row or other items while waiting for you to give the items required for increasing population level.
The rate of roe production varies as well, so you may not get it everyday with every fish.

Legendary fish wont go into the fish ponds. But all others will.
