Skull Caverns is the place that offers the best odds. 4% chance in any Iridium vein, 4% chance in any treasure room, 25% chance from any Mystic stone.
Too many things to fight 😓
Using a Desert Totem gives you an extra four hours. You can use bombs and speed food to get through levels quickly. Bring a lot of food for healing.
Levels 50+ should have a decent number of Iridium veins.
2. You should have around 200 iron ore and coal going into Skull Caverns to make bombs to bomb good clusters of rock and ore as you go
2.5. You should always eat a Spicy Eel (Speed + Luck), Lucky Lunch (Luck) or Magic Rock Candy (lots of Luck amongst other things) just before you enter alongside a Coffee or Triple Shot Espresso, the Coffee or Triple Shot Espresso give you speed and stacks with Spicy Eel Speed
3. You should always go down the ladders almost as soon as you spot them and leave any ore nodes until you are toward level 100 unless it is a decent amount of ore that you need
4. You should always use the shafts that appear instead of ladders
5. You should always have enough food on you to last the day, ideally you would have purple mushrooms, a stack of iridium quality Salmonberries or Blackberries in season, salad (bought from Saloon), but no food that overrides your Luck + Speed buff food
6. You should always have at least bare minimum 200 Stone going into the Skull Caverns to make Staircases as you go, or trade Jade for Staircases at the Desert Trader on a certain day I think Sunday
6.5. You should ALWAYS use a Staircase on Infested Levels
6.5.1. You should almost always use a Staircase on the spiral shaped levels due to the inefficiency of them
7. Once you get around level 85+ you should start looking a little more for Iridium ores before going down the ladder unless it is too far
7.5. Once you reach level 100+ you probably want to be looking a bit more for Iridium ore, ideally you would make it to around level 150+ and be looking at having gotten at least 200 ore, 3 prismatic shards, a bunch of diamonds (trade for espresso), a bunch of ruby (trade for spicy eel), a bunch of omni geodes (trade for desert warp totems), a bunch of jade (trade for staircases).
8. Probably the one thing that might also make a difference is using Animation Cancelling, it is in the game by pressing Right-Shift + Del + R. Animation Cancelling will speed up your pickaxe usage by at least 50% and is very easy to do if you were to use a third party software to rebind those keys to one single key
I tried once with 40 stairecases but I wasted too much time, I didn’t even use them all, no time left.
I want to just go down one level after the other until I reach 100 the fastest possible with staircases.
Then I hope to have enough time left to mine some ore....
Incidentally, you'll be drowning in omni geodes after doing the aforementioned bombing in the skull cavern. So if that is indeed a guarantee getting a prismatic shard is very very easy. Doubt it works that way though tbh.
Oh wait, open 25 omni geodes? Now I am pretty sure that works differently. I believe the item you'll obtain is set when you first collect them, not when breaking them open. You can tell because if you open the same geode twice (open, then quit the game without saving and do it again) you'll get the very same item. You can try that on different days and I'm pretty sure it'll be the same, but I admit I never tested it.
Also, the wiki says the odds for getting a prismatic shard from an omni geode is 0.4%, roughly 1/250. Even if luck boosts that, it's a long shot.
Luck does not affect Geode results. They are predetermined.
The odds of getting a Prismatic Shard in an Omni Geode is 0.4% (1 in 250). Indeed, bombing Skull Caverns will yield a large number of them, so that's yet another way this dungeon can provide you with a Shard.
edit: you will need lots of bombs too to blow up the nodes and stones.
It just requires time I guess...
I’ll be back in that cavern when I’ll have 100 staircases (so I can also meet the odd guy down there eheheh).
