I use swords - they don't give that much of a knock-back and swing faster. Forged Galaxy with 3 rubies - more damage so killing everything faster. Not enchanted yet and not sure which one to go for but Vampiric looks promising. Also upgrading it to Infinity will help but you have to get those Souls first.
Get good footwear - Cinderclown shoes that dwarf sells at floor 5, maybe Dragonscale or Mermaid if you get lucky with chests.
Also look into combined rings - you will have effect of 4 while wearing only 2. Napalm may be good though I don't have that yet so not sure. I use Crabshell/iridium band and luck/burglar, but if you aren't after mob drops maybe some other rings will be better instead - YMMV.
And yes - pause by opening inventory when in a pinch: this gives you a little space to breath, access the situation, and change your item from weapon or bomb to food or drink. This way you can still save yourself at the (almost) last moment.
P.S. For me every dungeon/mine is a grind - I hate them with passion but if you are after 100% completion and collecting every drop there's no way around it.
P.P.S. Yes, you can lose any item, any at all, and it might be a hard choice to pick just one to recover from Marlon - but at least you can get one of them back...
but generally it's the same with them as with every other enemy. You've to find a strategy which works for you. If you're unable to keep them at distance, then you might want to get the phoenix ring and the protection ring (you've to be lucky though, as they only spawn in chest within the vulcano dungeon).
The napalm ring only triggers, when you defeat the enemy, so it's quite good in big groups of enemies (like the big slimes) or to brake brake stones in the mines or the skull caverns to speed up things a littlebit. It however doesn't help directly to defeat a monster you're already struggling with.
i already have beaten the dungeon i just need to grind it for the stuff
Don't carry stacks of items that are much bigger than what you need. As you noticed, if you do that, if you lose them, the whole stack is lost. Only take what you'll likely need, put any surplus in a chest somewehere.
Also, you know about the recovery service run by Marlon, right? It doesn't matter in which dungeon you lost it, you can use the service. (If you kill enough mummies I think, it was, you can even use it via telephone!)
However, if you lose 2 important items in one run you'll only get back one of them, so choose wisely.
Combat is just bad in this game. Try to avoid most of it if you can.
prismatic slime quest and that light puzzle on ginger, not doing those again, its fine though i now realise it was way less of a loss than i thought, i have 3 chests stacked with coffee beans and 4 sheds full of kegs got 3000 coffees / 999 expressos again in 5 in game days
and i forgot the adventure guild was even there and only now realised that you can buy multiple galaxy weapons.
i also now have 999 super meals from the dungeon now for extreme speed and im chugging life elixers whenever my health get to half just in chase, Cinderclown shoes do not match my outfit.
i'm mainly grinding the dungeon for dragons tooths but again the enemys are such a pain
You can use the sewing machine to change how your boots look, though! So you can wear the cinderclown shoes, but make them LOOK like Sneakers or Space Boots or Leprechaun Shoes or whatever. You may want to consult a guide to the sewing machine before doing sew so but it can be done!
for trinkets, 2 irididium band hybrids, one fused with burglar, the other fused with the slime ring. specialy the second makes surviving so much easyer
You must be thinking of something else. Fruit Salad ingredients are pretty nasty (there's even a tree fruit in there) and you can't even learn the recipe until the second half of the second year.
Berries are of course the cheapest healing items available, but it's annoying to have to eat multiples.
In my experience, Purple Mushrooms and Magma Caps are the best healing items. While not super common, you can find them just lying around and they provide very, very strong healing.
I typically don't go the Botanist route, though. I'd rather gather more wood for projects and charcoal kilns. The iridium forage is very nice, but kinda breaks the game in some ways.
