How do I plant grass?

My character just walks up and down and holds it in the air lol.
No matter what button I click nothing works.

Are you sure that you're holding grass starter? It's really easy to mix up with fiber. They look almost the same.

I bought grass from the shop and she just won't put it down it's weird

What type of ground are you trying to plant it on? I'm not entirely sure, but I think that it needs to be bare dirt that hasn't been tilled with the hoe.

You must put it on plain ground, not the one you use to sow the seeds! You must not hoe the ground.

It's quite a complicated game that looks so basic. I still haven't made my way to the beach yet I keep getting lost and then its bed time lol :0) x

pro tip: if you have an area where you want grass to spawn, and you've planted some grass starter there, put down a lightning rod or two ON TOP of a patch of grass.

That'll prevent animals from eating that patch of grass, which it turn means it'll always be there to generate more grass.

It doesn't need to be a lightning rod, but it is an excellent tip for those starting out, it saves messing around having to replant your grass starter/s.

You get a lightning rod as a reward from doing the community centre bundles (I can't remember which one - you get a fair bit of free machines/seeds from completing the bundles the better rewards include the greenhouse, bridge repair & glittering boulder removal. Oh and the bus/mine carts back in business. (Note: if you are using the SDVE/ Ridge mods the extra mine carts are available after completing Lenny's materials list, once she's sent you it in the mail.)

You can also craft a lightning rod. (correct me if I'm wrong, but I think you can also get one as you upgrade your skills set?)
