Silos are shared between all of your coops and barns.

So yeah they do both but make sure you have enough hay for the winter, plus it never hurts to have multiple silos :)

If you have 1 full barn and coop you need 3 silos for the winter. If you don't want to refill them that is.

Each animal eat 1 piece of hay each day.
A fully upgrades barn or coop can hold 12 animals
Winter last 28 days.
A Silo can hold 240 pieces of hay.

24(animal) * 28 (days) = 672 (hay)
672 / 240 = 2.8 (silos)

So if you wonder if it is a bad idea to get more then 1 silo, don't worry about it and just build another.

I always go 1 silo per building, just for looks though. If you just remove all the hay from the Silo (Through a coop/barn) and then remove the rest of your grass, you can have extra hay for the winter. I was able to keep 1 barn and 1 coop through winter with just the hay from the grass in year 1 by doing this. By year 2 winter, you "should" have enough money to just buy the hay from Marnie's.
