When you cut grass, hay goes into the silo for storage, and the silo allows you to withdraw it from a bin inside the chicken coop.
You still need to pull the hay out of the bin, and place it on the bench for chickens to eat.
So if you have 3 chickens, you'll withdraw 3 at a time - this way, it's possible to withdraw it all (3, 6, 9, etc. until it's empty) so you can place it in a chest for Winter, and continue cutting grass to build up your reserves.
The 3rd tier of coop comes with an auto-feeder, so you don't need to manually load the feeding shelf every day.
