Mr. Qi's Special Order Lack of Reward

Qi's Hungry Challenge seem like a very cheap reward compared to Skull Cavern Invasion.

Eh. As long as you're good at combat and have plenty of bombs/staircases, the challenge on the right isn't too hard. You're basically swapping out "likelihood of dying from tough monsters" with "likelihood of dying from fall damage from holes". The vampire ring will keep you alive if you're good enough at combat.

I do agree they should be "equal" challenges, with both paying 40, though. They're essentially the same challenge, with the same difficulty, and same method of solving.

Well since the second one is more difficult it should have a bigger reward than the first one

Yeah, the one on the left is much easier. You can work on it slowly over 7 days (thanks to the elevator) instead of having to get to level 100 in a single day, you can eat food, and monsters in the Harmode Mines typically don't hit as hard.

For some reason the easier challenge pays more than the harder one.

Uh, both of them are Skull Caverns so you have to make it to floor 100 in a single day either way. I would say the hungry challenge is harder due to the inability to eat and should at the very least pay the same, not 15 less.

Oh right, they're both in Skull Caverns... makes the inequality even more blatant. They're literally the same goal except the one where you can't eat pays less.

Rewards should be swapped around.

Are the "Dangerous" versions of the monsters (Extremely long Serpents, slimes with sunglasses) in Skull cavern in "Qi's Hungry Challange?"

Fortunately, only normal version.

He's asking about Skull Cave, not The Mines, and AFIAK, there is no switch to active/deactive "dangerous" monsters in Skull Cave.

If you activate the shrine of challenge in the mine it will also affect the monsters in the skull cave as well

Maybe it was just bad luck when I did it but the invasion was much MUCH harder than the hungry challenge for me. Hungry challenge was really easy - with end game gear the normal enemies were easy, and having a crusader weapon made life a lot easier. Healing is trivial with a vampiric weapon and vampire ring to swap out into - the only thing I missed about eating were the buffs, but if you use Qi seasoning and eat before you enter you could probably still keep a speed buff for most of the run.

The skull cavern in dangerous mode was tough even in endgame gear and I was constantly fending off large numbers of enemies that could deal quite a bit of damage. It took a lot more preparation and consumables than the hungry challenge.

Ultimately, you can trivialize either with staircases if you want, but I don't plan on doing the skull cavern invasion again. It just wasn't worth it.
