Can your spouse place furniture?
Ok please bare with me with this one...

I am married to Sam on my main save file. Something weird happened last week: I wake up in the game, walk towards the kitchen, and Sam is standing there with a potted plant in the middle of the living room. This happened after the update so I assumed that there was a new function where your spouse could place furniture, similar to how they could change the wallpaper and flooring randomly. My problem is that after a week of research, I have found nothing explaining why Sam placed a houseplant in the middle of the house. Nothing on the game's website, nothing on the wiki, nothing in patch updates, and nothing in other online discussions of any kind.

I would like to point out that I did not talk to Sam when he was standing next to the plant, I was in enough surprise to give him time to walk away. He stood in the kitchen and I talked to him, expecting him to comment on the new decoration, like a spouse would when they change wallpaper. He said nothing about the plant. Maybe I just missed his dialogue?

Two seasons have passed in the game and not only has he said nothing but I have decided not to touch the plant, so there it shall stay. I'm worried that my boy bought a demon plant from a sketchy dude and now he is possessed or something and that's why he wont acknowledge it. What if I pick up the plant and I get possessed too or something I dunno.

Would anyone happen to have any info and has this happened to anyone else? Or is this a glitch of some kind?

(If it helps, here are a few little things, maybe they would have something to do with it...) I am on year 7, the plant appeared in spring. My house only has the kitchen upgrade and I have not had kids with my spouse. It is a common plant, one that can be bought from Robin's, the Traveling cart, and in the catalog. I do not have the catalog placed in my house, it is placed in my storage shed, and I did not have this plant stored in any chests anywhere. I am positive I did not place the item myself and that it was not moved from somewhere else in the home because it was not there in the first place.

Thanks for the help, sorry for the long explanation.

Emily did this to me. They can change the wallpaper, at least.
They're never just standing in the middle of the room either, so something's up for sure. I think it's just a thing they can do now. For all I know they already could.

Yes, your spouse can place furniture ... at least the plant anyway.

And yes, there is a dialog about it, it's not terribly significant though, your spouse will just say that they just got "X" in the mail, and ask you what you think of it. My recollection is that you don't even get an option to respond though.

(I might be misremembering that, but I don't think it changes anything even if you do).

i've had spouses place down chairs, end tables, plants, wall paper, and flooring

honestly it's pretty great, and i try to leave the furniture as is even if it's in weird places like the middle of the stairs

I have had 2 spouses completely redecorate the bedroom, changed the bed, wallpaper, flooring, rugs and chairs. They did at least ASK first a week or so before, and even ask for $$$ for the project.

@soaring better hold away what you modded game does, because it will only confuse vanilla players.

Actually, IT kinda IS :> Penny's 14 heart event more specifically is about renovating the bedroom where the player gets to pick between 3 themes. The renovation takes about 3 days. Alex also has a project where he will ask the player for money, but it is not related to the bedroom. And Penny doesn't charge the player if I remember correctly.

soaring dont sayed it was a hearth event , sounds more like a normal thing that happend how it was described, specialy because the mentation of 2 different spouses.
and TS sounded like normal ocasional events where meant as well, not Hearth Events.

Everyone is so ungrateful !

You should do what you'd do to a real relative. "That's wonderful. I love it. I'm going to use it to decorate the mini shed just to the right of the house".

S.x.

so in answer to your question: YES your spouse can place furniture. I have frequently woke up to find random chairs, tables or decorations placed in the house, no heart event involved. I always wonder "where did that come from?".
