Every mine cart and backpack is empty/open

I'm into spring year 2, bottom of the regular mine, and hit level 25 in Skull Cavern - every single mine cart and backpack (for coal) is empty - every single one. Every time. I never have coal in this game... single player.. help?!

Plenty of coal in rocks and geodes but if you need more you can build charcoal kiln to transform 10 wood in 1 coal.

The Minecarts and Backpacks do not respawn coal once collected on each level.

As long as you keep going down toward 100 and onwards you will still be able to find them. Coal is easiest found in its raw form from Dust Sprites from level 40-50 in the normal mines.

If you get around 200 iron and coal you can bomb your way down skull caverns and you should maintain that amount assuming you bomb large clusters o rock with at least one iron ore vein there.

In the levels 60-70 of the normal mines there should be a lot of dust sprites that will drop coal. And you can just exit the mine and reset if there aren't any or after you cleaned those levels.

Burglar's Ring + Dust Sprites is my go-to for grinding coal. Getting the ring in the first place is from killing 500 of the buggers, so you can grind coal to get better at grinding coal. Get through all the dust sprites and drop through the relevant levels quickly and then exit the mine, and re-enter back at the beginning of the area you want to be in, and there will be fresh new Dust Sprites to kill.
