When is the best time to upgrade watering can?

I'm assuming winter season would be, but I haven't gotten that far yet.

Yeah, winter is generally the best time. You can also do it on the 27th day of a month after watering crops because you generally don't need to water on the last day of a month (as most crops will die on the 1st of the next month), then it would be ready on the 1st to water new crops.

check the tv. If its going to rain the next day do your watering and bring Clint your watering can. It'll be ready the day after the rainy day and your crops will be fine because the rain took care of them day 1 the can was gone.

I normally aim at getting it to iron until summer or at least copper. I normally have enough sprinklers starting with fall, which makes the watering can somewhat useless anyway.

I'm also playing in multiplayer most of the time, where it doesn't really matter to time it properly, as you can just borrow one of your friends while yours is getting an upgrade

Any time it's going to rain the next day. Water what you need, go visit Clint and drop off your watering can, then pick it up the day after it rains.

Note: This also works on day 27 of any season even if it's NOT raining. You don't need to water on day 28, and the watering can will be ready on day 1 of the following season.
