Can lava eel be substituted for eel in fried eel & spicy eel recipes?

I'm just trying to finish up the Gourmet Chef achievement, and these are two of the last recipes I need to cook. It is currently summer, so I can't fish for eels until fall, but I do have a lava eel fish pond. I'm wondering if I can use the lava eels from my pond in these recipes, or if I have to wait until fall to be able to cook them.

Pretty sure it doesn't work. Very different fish - like midnight carp and carp.

No idea... just try it !
Fish a lava eel from your pond and look for yourself, if it doesnt work just drop it back in the pond...
