Force-complete task? Fish Stew quest not resolving

Hello! I'm playing on Mac XI.4. I've given an albacore to Gus twice, but the game treats it like a regular gift. It doesn't get rid of the journal entry Fish Stew. Any idea what I should do? Is it a bug, and if so, is there a way to resolve it-- a cheat code or something? Thank you!

Have you tried just talking to him with an albacore in your inventory? I know item delivery quests don't normally work this way, but it's the first thing I would try. In any case, it's easy and harmless.

With SMAPI installed, you can enter a command to complete a quest. While I can't imagine why this command would cause any adverse affects, I don't know enough about commands to guarantee that it wouldn't, so use it at your own discretion.

Otherwise, you could just cancel the quest. It doesn't give a special reward or unlock anything, and story quests don't count toward any achievements, so you wouldn't be missing out on much.

The obvious things first: Are you sure that it's the right fish? Right person?

If you really can rule out every possible user error, it sounds like a bug. I'd probably "cheat" mike explained above, too.

The first time I tried to complete this quest, I gave Gus the wrong fish because I assumed that he meant tuna. I hadn't caught an albacore yet, so I didn't know they existed in the game as a separate fish.

It's embarrassing to admit, but I was in fact giving it to the wrong person. I associate all fish stuff with Willy-- whoops. Good info in this thread to have for later, though!
