Harvest Moon
So did some of the developers used to work for Natsume working on Harvest Moon? This is so similar it could be considered a copy.

STV was made by one guy and no he did not work for Natsume. As far as I know, STV was ideally an alternative to Harvest Moon. Wikipedia has a pretty good write up if you want to know more.

I do not agree that it can be considered a copy. ConcernedApe was inspired by Harvest Moon from what I have read but he really did create something unique and even though there are similar elements they are both also very different. Stardew Valley became its own game the way I see it.

Sure, it's different but just enough. I played Harvest Moon pretty heavily on PS1 and N64. The festivals, the characters (their mannerisms and their clothing), the businesses, mining down levels, the farm and the farming. Inspired? HEAVILY. I'm not knocking the game, it's great. But having spent hours and hours and replay after replay of Harvest Moon, yeah... But we all know nothing is original in this day and age.

It's totally fine if you like Harvest Moon more and better. I just don't agree that Stardew Valley is a copy. I do however think Harvest Moon has played an important role when it comes to these type of games.

It's not that I like HM more or better. SDV is pretty dope. It's just glaringly obvious to me all the similarities. It's not a bad thing. It just is what it is. Having done some digging, he's acknowledged that it basically started out as a HM clone and evolved into what it is. Which is kinda cool.

Exactly. That is what I meant when I said it became its own game. I think you can still find some videos on youtube about the game in its earliest stages. It has really come a long way...! :brownchicken:

It was made by one guy. His internet handle is Concerned Ape (you'll sometimes see him referred to as just "CA" as well). I believe he's said he was inspired by Harvest Moon, but no, it's an homage, not a "copy", it has entirely new code, new stories and new art work, all created from scratch, by CA.

The creator of Harvest Moon was very impressed by it and didn't consider it a copy. There's an interview with the creators of both games together somewhere. Do a search.

I've seen it. Interview before that is where he stated it was originally a clone of HM. Maybe copy is the wrong word but it's so obviously strongly based off of HM. From outfits, to locations, to the festivals, certain dialogue. Quit a bit was "borrowed" from HM.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gladiator_(2000_soundtrack)#Musical_impact

"In April 2006, a law firm representing the Holst Foundation filed a lawsuit claiming that Zimmer had infringed the copyright of Gustav Holst's The Planets. "The Battle" from the score was claimed to infringe the copyright on "Mars, the bringer of war".[13][14] The Track "Barbarian Horde" reprises most of these themes."

Listen to both. Now THAT's a copy.

Will u say Bejeweled, Candy Crush Saga, and Cradle of Rome is a copy game? Well for me it just a "3 match" genre but the game is have their own unique. So I'll say maybe Harvestmoon is a new genre farming simulator game, and Stardew follow it's path as a farming simulator genre.

I hope u understand cause my english is awful.
