Stardew Valley stuck on version 1.3. Can't update

I bought Stardew Valley like a few months. I already had it on switch and it has properly updated to version 1.5. I bought it on PC so that I could experience mods and different controls. My PC version of Stardew will not update. It does not say that it will update, it just says play. I want to be able to play on PC as well as console but until I figure this out, I feel that I am missing out on content. Can anyone help?

See if you have the game set to update automatically. In your library page, right click on stardew valley on the list on the left, choose properties then click on updates and check the box to always keep the game updated. Then log out of steam and close it completely then open steam again (allowing it to do the self-update, intialization thing) and after logging in, the game should update itself.

Some other things you can try is see if you're opted into some any beta testing for Stardew Valley, you can check that under Betas in the properties menu. And if you are, opt out of the beta and let the game update itself.

You can also try reinstalling Stardew to see if that helps and verify the integrity of the files.

And finally try launching Stardew thru steam if you're playing it via smapi, to see if it'll update then.

Picking it up a few months ago would have been the 1.5 version on default install. So the only way you could have the 1.3 version is to opt into an old beta or gotten it from a different source.
