HELP! Unable to put items in Fish Pond for Request UPDATE: SOLUTION FOUND TO THIS ISSUE... Read thread

I have 3 sting rays in my fish pond and the first request came to add 7 cinder shards.
I know you can only place one at a time, and I attempted to do so... right clicking, nothing.
left clicking, nothing. I select the cinder shard and when I click, all that comes up is the same request icon. I don't know what I am doing wrong. I have looked at the discussion boards and all they say is throw it in the pond... and not how it is done with mouse/keyboard.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Are you hovering your cursor over the fish pond? Also if it is multiple of one item, then you have to throw them in one by one by left clicking. It could also be a glitch. Maybe if nothing else works, try fishing out all your sand fish, go to robin and destroy the fishing pond, and then buy and build a new one but this would cost money and material. Hope this helps, if not i'm sorry ^-^

I did hover my cursor over the fish pond with the cinder shard selected from inventory... just one shard... and then left clicked... and the quest icon came up. (I also tried right clicking which also did not work.) I also exited the game completely, went back in, and the same thing occurred when I tried again. I'm beginning to think and agree with you that it may just be a glitch.
I will do as you suggested... and build a new pond.
I'll let you know if it works, so if this happens to someone else and it works, they will have a solution, thanks to you!

is the pond asking for CINDER SHARDS or STAR SHARDS??? They look very much alike and its easy to confuse the two. I currently have 10 fish ponds active, and dont remember ever seeing one ask for CINDER SHARDS because they are not available unless you've gone thru the volcano . I just checked, and yes they do request cinder shards.but they have a chance to give them back to you later on.
Rather then destroying your pond, just remove one fish, and let the population regrow. Your game may just be glitched. If it stays glitched, remove all the fish, empty pond ,and put in a different species.

soaringfreedom, The quest was for "7 Cinder Shards". I have 3 sting rays in the pond and you can only catch them in the Pirate's Cove on Ginger Island. It is my first pond and the reason I wanted the sting rays is that on occasion they award dragon teeth... which I need to make the island warp totem. It is much easier from what I read to get them in this way then in the Volcano.
I did previously remove the fish, and went to the next game day and replaced them... hoping a save on the game would break the glitch... but it didn't. The same quest came up for 7 cinder shards and I wasn't able to place the shard at all and once again would only show the icon for the quest.
So, I had Robin destroy the pond, and replace it with a new one. I just got the fish back in, but it hasn't come up with a quest yet. I'm hoping that will break the glitch.
I will let you know.
In the meantime, if it does happen again, I will do as you suggested and put in a different species just to see what happens.

yes i realized you were right about the request. ... Going thru the volcano on the tractor (with the Tractor mod) is sooooooo much easier. I have lots of extra dragon teeth and Cinder shards.

I don't have any mods on the game... straight vanilla. I would love to add some mods, but I'm not that knowledgeable on how to add them. Would LOVE to get that tractor, though! LOL
That Volcano is a real bear to get through... been killed every time... I'll need to watch some walkthroughs to see how I can avoid the pitfalls.
Still waiting for the requests from the fish pond... I'll update you as soon as I can.

there are instructions on modding on the STARDEW VALLEY WIKI website. or you can go to NEXUS website and check out the SMAPI , it has instructions on how to start modding. SMAPI is the first thing you need, then add more mods that you want from NEXUS.

OMG... soaring freedom? YOU HAD THE ANSWER FROM THE VERY BEGINNING!
What threw me off was your question "was the pond asking for cinder shards or star shards", and the answer was cinder shards, BUT... what I ignored was looking more closely at what I had.., AND THEY WERE STAR SHARDS! (I feel so silly... lol). I should have looked more closely to what I had.
You are right, THEY LOOK IDENTICAL.
Good grief, now I have no choice but to go back into the Volcano to get those cinder shards... it's the only place to acquire them. And the request from the pond is that they require the cinder shards to reproduce. I wonder if I just go get more sting rays out of the Pirate's Cove, if that will make them reproduce?
