Is the galaxy sword overrated?
I suppose it's a bit like swearing in church, asking a question like that, as it's a very popular and anticipated weapon, but to be honest, when I got it, I didn't notice much difference. For example: slime monsters in the volcano caves still need a dozen hits to go down . First thing I did, once I got a prismatic shard, was to make haste to the desert and claim the galaxy sword. A decision I soon would regret, as it turned out that I needed a prismatic shard to donate to the missing bundle , and I don't notice any difference from the lava katana. I did eventually get another one, so it's all good, but I know that if I should ever start over on the "good" route again, I'll save the prismatic shard for that other purpose.

What about you, do you notice any improvement with the galaxy sword?

Stat wise yes it is the best sword in the game Or at least you need it to craft the REAL best sword in the game and yeah, I noticed a different over the lava katana because again, better stats

Try and iridium band or ruby ring if you're still struggling to do damage, volcano slims go down in about 4-5 hits for me

The galaxy sword deals more damage and is faster. Even if the dwarven sword does the same damage (or maybe even more) it's slower, even if it gives some defense bonus. But speed means you can hit enemies as they attack, so speed is actually a better defense than the defense stat. And speed gives you more attacks, so it's more relevant than gaining 5 points of maximum damage.
I don't remember all the parts' names now, but for damage and so you can craft double rings which definitely help. I have one which causes enemies to explode and prevents damage from slimes (saves you the effort of digging), and another which glows, attracts stuff and deals 10% more damage. I don't think the vampiric ring healing power is relevant.

No it's fabulous! :brownchicken:

It becomes even better when you forge and enchant it at the forge on the top of the
volcano at Ginger Island. And don't forget that you can also use 3 galaxy souls to transform
it into its true form "Infinity Blade" which makes it even more powerful
.

Hmm, seems like I've missed out of a lot of things. I have no idea of how to forge things. One day, maybe. I'm not in a rush, but thanks for the tip. :) As of now I have pretty much all I need, and consider myself done with mines and caves (unless I suddenly need a supply of a certain amount of a certain ore).

Don't forget the defensive aspect of the sword. It swings very fast and in a wide arc. Allowing you keeping a group of enemies at bay.

You can't do that with a dagger or a hammer in the Skull caverns.

I've taken my galaxy sword to the volcano and forged and upgraded it as much as possible, It now has a maximum attack of 312. Wipes out monsters really fast. Took alot of Cinder shards.

The missing bundle has six possible items and only needs five. I gave it one because I had five and what else was I going to use a prismatic shard for? Version 1.5 happened a week later. -_-

As to the topic at hand, the dwarven sword has slightly better stats if you forge it the right way, but nothing else even comes close. The galaxy sword's speed and damage are leagues above any other weapon except for the obvious so while it does take a fair few hits to deal with any given enemy, the lava katana will be slower to do the same job.

A lot of it comes down to personal preference. I personally rate the Galaxy Sword as the 4th or 5th best weapon in the game. Be warned there are very light spoilers below if you haven't done all the new 1.5 content.

I would rank the weapons as follows:

#1 Infinity Gavel and Infinity Blade It comes down to personal preference and what enchantment build and combat professions you have as to which is better. The Gavel is devastating but slower and trickier weapon with a much higher skill ceiling.

#3 Dragon Tooth Cutlass: Particularly with a crit hit build, this sword is the best non-infinity weapon. It lacks a speed bonus which does hurt it, but as a sword its base speed is enough to get the job done and it does a LOT of dmg. Running a crit hit build, it will one hit KO any monster in the game when it crits even without any ring support for additional dmg.

#4 Dwarf Sword and Galaxy Sword: Another tie. Which weapon is better comes down to a matter of personal preference, although I would give the edge to the Dwarf Sword since it can be used in more builds. It is the crucial go-to weapon for an invincible defense build. Both do the same dmg on average, so you are trading 4 points of defense for 2 speed. On slower weapons, speed bonuses are not just good, they are crucial. But we aren't talking about slow weapons here. We are talking about the difference between two fast weapons so you get diminishing returns on adding even more speed.

#? The Black Sheep known as the Dragon Tooth Club: This is a very heavy hitting weapon. It has the same base damage as the Infinity Sword and it boasts the highest melee dmg in the game on crit. The problem with this weapon is that it is just too slow. Unlike swords which have enough base speed to get the job done if you are skilled with timing your slashes, the base speed on a club is going to negatively effect both your ability to defend yourself properly and your ability to land attacks of opportunity. I find the bare minimum speed for a club to be +2 with +4 being preferable which means this thing needs to use up at least one forge slot on +speed. If you dial it in with forging and don't mind slower weapons this club can actually be better than the Galaxy Sword for some people.

#6ish Galaxy Hammer: Another hard to evaluate weapon. It is a smidgen behind the Dragon Tooth Club once you start forging them both. It all comes down to how skilled you are with slow weapons and executing the club's special multi-hit combo attack. Again for some people with the proper build this weapon may top the Galaxy Sword.
